Peter Davies is an English politician who was the Mayor of Doncaster from 2009 to 2013. He was initially elected for the English Democrats, but announced his resignation from the party on 5 February 2013 citing "a big influx of new members joining from the British National Party". He subsequently lost narrowly the 2013 election to Labour's Ros Jones.

The Mayor of Doncaster is a directly elected mayor, first elected on 2 May 2002, taking on the executive function of City of Doncaster Council. The incumbent mayor is Ros Jones elected as a member of the Labour Party, who won the election held on 2 May 2013. The position is different from the long-existing and largely ceremonial, annually appointed mayors who are now known as the civic mayor of Doncaster.

An election to Cambridgeshire County Council took place on 5 May 2005 as part of the 2005 United Kingdom local elections. The election took place on the same day as the 2005 United Kingdom General Election. 69 councillors were elected from 60 electoral divisions, which returned either one or two county councillors each by first-past-the-post voting. New electoral division boundaries were brought in for this election, increasing the number of seats from the 59 seats at the 2001 Cambridgeshire County Council election. The Conservative Party retained their majority on the council, while the Labour Party lost all their rural councillors with their representation limited to the city of Cambridge.

The South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner by-election was a 2014 by-election on 30 October 2014 for the position of Police and Crime Commissioner in the South Yorkshire Police region of the United Kingdom. It was triggered by the resignation of Shaun Wright, the inaugural South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, who stepped down from the position on 16 September 2014 following the Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal. Wright had been head of children's services in Rotherham between 2005 and 2010, while events surrounding the scandal were taking place. The Labour candidate, Alan Billings, was elected.
