Marun Field is an oil field, located in the Khuzestan province of Iran and is the second-largest oil field in Iran. The field was discovered in 1963, and owned by state-owned National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and operated by National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC). [1]

National Iranian Oil Company Oil And Gas company

The National Iranian Oil Company, a government-owned corporation under the direction of the Ministry of Petroleum of Iran, is a national oil and natural gas producer and distributor headquartered in Tehran. It was established in 1948 and reinforced under The Consortium Agreement of 1954. NIOC ranks as the world's second largest oil company, after Saudi Arabia's state-owned Aramco.

The Marun field contains estimated recoverable oil reserves of 22 billion barrels making it the world's sixth biggest onshore oil field in the world. [2] Marun is currently producing approximately 520,000 barrels per day (83,000 m3/d) of crude oil per day. It is the second biggest producing oil field in Iran, after Ahvaz Field. [3]

Ahvaz Field

Ahvaz Field is a super-giant oil field located in Ahvaz, Khuzestan, Iran. It was discovered in 1953 and Developed by Anglo-Persian Oil Company. It began production in 1954. Ahvaz field is one of the richest oil fields in the world with an estimated proven reserves around 65.5 billion barrels, and production is centered on 750,000 barrels per day (119,000 m3/d). The field is owned by National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and operated by National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC).

The super-giant Marun field, has long been one of the most prolific oil fields in Iran. It reached a peak of 1.34 million b/d in 1976, and although it has since declined, it remains in the top three producing fields alongside Ahvaz Field and Gachsaran Field. [4] The smaller Kupal oil field and Shadegan oil field, located north and south of Marun. The Marun field was brought on stream in 1966 and its production gradually raised to more than one million barrels of oil a day in 1972. [5] It consists of two oil reservoirs and one gas reservoir named Asmari, Bangestan, and Khami, respectively.

The Kupal oil field is an oil field located in Khuzestan Province, at 60 km east of Ahvaz City. It was discovered in 1965 and the production was started after installing production facilities in 1970. The total proven reserves of the Kupal oil field are around 5,6 billion barrels. The field has 60 km in length 1.5 km in width and includes two Asmari and Bangestan reservoirs. So far, 55 wells were drilled in this field, 39 wells are active, which produce totally 93,000 barrels per day (14,800 m3/d). The field is owned by state-owned National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and operated by National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC).

Shadegan oil field

The Shadegan oil field is an Iranian oil field located in Khuzestan Province, in the south west of Ahvaz City. It was discovered in 1968 and the production was started in 1988. The field has 23 km in length 6 km in width and includes two reservoirs. Shadegan field is currently with 20 active oil wells and crude oil production is about 69,000 barrels per day (11,000 m3/d). The field is owned by National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and operated by National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC).

Cantarell Field or Cantarell Complex is an aging supergiant oil field in Mexico. It was discovered in 1976 after oil stains were noticed by a fisherman, Rudesindo Cantarell Jimenez, in 1972. It was placed on nitrogen injection in 2000, and production peaked at 2.1 million barrels per day (330,000 m3/d) in 2004. According to the Oil & Gas Journal, as of January 2015, the UAE holds the seventh-largest proven reserves of oil in the world at 97.8 billion barrels. Most of these reserves are located in Abu Dhabi. It is the world's 12th largest oil company by production, producing 3.1 million barrels per day. It is the UAE's biggest company.

South Pars/North Dome Gas-Condensate field natural gas field

The South Pars/North Dome field is a natural-gas condensate field located in the Persian Gulf. It is by far the world's largest natural gas field, with ownership of the field shared between Iran and Qatar. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the field holds an estimated 1,800 trillion cubic feet of in-situ natural gas and some 50 billion barrels of natural gas condensates. On the list of natural gas fields it has almost as much recoverable reserves than all the other fields combined. It has significant geostrategic influence.

Azadegan oil field

Oil reserves in Iran

Proved oil reserves in Iran, according to its government, rank fourth largest in the world at approximately as of 2013, although it ranks third if Canadian reserves of unconventional oil are excluded. This is roughly 10% of the world's total proven petroleum reserves. At 2006 rates of production, Iran's oil reserves would last 98 years if no new oil was found.

The Iranian Offshore Oil Company is a subsidiary of the National Iranian Oil Company. IOOC, an independent legal entity, is based in Tehran and operates in southern Iran. Its activities cover important areas of the Persian Gulf and its main operations are in Bushehr Province and on Kharg Island, Sirri Island and Lavan Island.

The Iranian Central Oil Fields Company established in 1999, is one of the five major production companies of the National Iranian Oil Company. It is responsible for production of gas and oil from 76 reservoirs, comprising 45 gas fields and 31 oilfields; among them, 14 gas fields and 13 oilfields are currently in operation, and by the end of the 20 year outlook plan it will have reached 89 fields in 19 provinces. The Company, at its establishment, was assigned to develop and to produce oil and gas from onshore fields through utilization of all available technology and know-how. As of 2015, ICOFC is the largest natural gas producer in Iran.

Aghajari oil field

The Aghajari oil field is an iranian oil field located in Khuzestan Province. It was discovered by Anglo-Persian Oil Company in 1938 and developed by National Iranian Oil Company. It began production in 1940 and produces oil. The total proven reserves of the Aghajari oil field are around 30 billion barrels (3758×106tonnes), and production is centered on 170,000 barrels per day (27,000 m3/d). The field is owned by state-owned National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and operated by National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC). Aghajari Gas Injection Project is aimed at boosting production from this aging field.

Bibi Hakimeh oil field

The Bibi Hakimeh oil field is an oil field located in Bibi Hakimeh, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province. It was discovered in 1961. It began production in 1963 and produces oil. Total production of the Bibi Hakimeh oilfield is centered on 120,000 barrels per day (19,000 m3/d). The field is owned by state-owned National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and operated by National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC).

Karanj oil field

The Karanj oil field is an Iranian oil field located 120 kilometres (75 mi) east of the Ahvaz City, in Khuzestan Province. It was discovered in 1963 and the production was started after installing production facilities in 1964. Oil production of Karanj field is about 200,000 barrels per day (32,000 m3/d). The field has a 650-metre thick oil column with a API gravity of 33.9 deg. Its oil reserves have been estimated at 11.2 bn barrels, with gas at about 3.5 TCF. A gas injection project at Karanj was completed in 1995. The field is owned by state-owned National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and operated by National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC).

Mansouri oil field

The Mansouri oil field is an oil field located in southwest Iran and 45km southeast of Ahvaz city. It was discovered in 1963 and the production was started after installing production facilities in 1974. Oil production of Mansouri field is about 110,000 barrels per day (17,000 m3/d). Its oil reserves have been estimated at 3.3 bn barrels. The field is owned by state-owned National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and operated by National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC).

The Abteymour oil field is an Iranian oil field located in Khuzestan Province, in 25 km from west of the Ahvaz City. It was discovered in 1967 and the production was started in 1991. Oil production of Abteymour field is about 48,000 barrels per day (7,600 m3/d). Its oil reserves have been estimated at 12.2 bn barrel. The field is owned by state-owned National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and operated by National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC).

Masjed Soleyman oil field

The Masjed Soleyman oil field is an oil field located in Masjed Soleyman, Khuzestan Province, Iran and in the north of Ahvaz City. It was the first oil field discovered in Middle East. The field is a mature super-giant, which produces primarily from the prolific Oligocene Asmari horizons, a formation which underpins Iranian crude oil production. The National Iranian South Oil Company operates the field, as well as a number of other fields in the surrounding regions. Oil production of MasjedSoleyman field is about 5,000 barrels per day (790 m3/d). The field is estimated to contain 6.5 billion barrels of oil. So far 367 wells were drilled in the field, of which only 16 are currently operational. The field is owned by National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC).
