Marwari College, Bhagalpur is a Constituent College of Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, which was established during British Raj in year 1941. This College is affiliated to Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University. [1] It offers Undergraduate courses in Commerce, Arts & Science and post-graduation course in commerce as well as some Vocational courses in BBA, BCA, BIT and B.Sc.(Biotech). It is also considered as one of the oldest institution for higher education in Bhagalpur, Bihar.
Marwari College Bhagalpur was started as the first Commerce teaching institute of Bihar, after Kolkata at eastern India in year 1941 during British Raj. Afterwards for shifting Marwari Pathsala from a high school to College, Shri Rai Bahadur Bansidhar Dhandhania as Founder Secretary established Marwari Pathsala Samiti in 1941. College started teaching up to Intermediate examination in Commerce under Patna University.Later College separated from school section & named "Marwari College".
The College first started in Vijay Bhawan near the Goshala and Shri Bholanath Mukherjee took the charge as founder Principal of the college. The very first session 1941-42, numerical strength of students increased to 36. The early success started when, in 1944 B.Com stranded degree classes were started in College. Later on the classes we conducted in Marwari Pathsala building because of increasing students to 171 in 1944-45, 459 in 1946-47, 543 in 1948-49, 696 in 1953-54. Due to suggestions from Bihar University, Marwari College started "I.A." standard classes in 1955-56 and students number became 1300.
The increasing of popularity was on the top, so Bhagalpur Municipality gifted 12.4 acres (20 bibhas) land for 99 year lease to College, where it is now located.
After the death of Secretary Banshidharji and successor quitting posts, the College became a Constituent unit of the Bhagalpur University (Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University) from 1 April 1970.
From the day of started to till now Marwari College is a premier institution of T.M. Bhagalpur University, which gives excellent output in field of education and in all round activities. UGC Recognised this college under 2(f) - 1960 and 12(b) - 1973. And NAAC also Accredited this college with Grade - 'A' on May 1, 2015.
Also, Marwari College is one of the oldest study centre of IGNOU in Bihar. [2]
Marwari Collage has 21 department in all three faculties Arts, Science and Commerce.
With a huge 12.4 acres of land Marwari College has a decent infrastructure, facilities & service in each an every feilds. Here are some facilities and services mentioned below.
Marwari College Library, as huge as over 60,000 books and 9,411 journal volumes, it's. Embracing modernity, Digital Library Management System ensures seamless access to resources and can obtain their library card through enrollment of membership.
Marwari College also manage study centre of IGNOU ,which is third Regional Center in Bihar and covers the jurisdiction over three districts Bhagalpur, Munger & Banka.
Marwari College also possess well equipped Microsoft software Computer Center with 60 computers. And a decent WiFi connectivity in academic buildings, Convocation hall, library & administrative blocks. It is very much helpful for BCA & BIT program students.
This college comes with labs facilities for students in most possible course like Zoology lab, botany lab and many more.
There is no such hostel provided by Marwari College, but students can get hostels in University level by TMBU.
Marwari College provides first aid facilities for students with minor medical treatments.
For evey year college drives a "Students Satisfaction Survey" to know students needs or satisfied with the facilities provided by college.
Marwari College sports hosts a vibrant array of indoor and outdoor games, nurturing sportsmanship and teamwork. From chess to cricket, facilities cater to diverse interests. College has dedicated a huge land for cricket and football, alongside spaces for badminton, table tennis, chess, and carrom. Tilka Majhi Bhagalpur University, formerly Bhagalpur University, is a public university in Bhagalpur, Bihar, India. It was established on 12 July 1960, having local colleges initially associated with Patna University. Its campus is around 264 acres (1.07 km2) in area. The name was changed from Bhagalpur University to Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University in 1991 in commemoration of Tilka Majhi, a freedom fighter.
