[3] In 2022, the Massachusetts state legislature passed a bill establishing EOVS as a cabinet level service in the executive government of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. [4]

Leadership

The current secretary is Jon Santiago, who was appointed by Governor Maura Healey on March 1, 2023. [5] Among the secretary's many duties is the appointment of the superintendents of the state's two veteran homes.
