Manjunath Nayaker is a former Indian actor and public relations professional. He is better known by his screen name, Master Manjunath and "Swamy" for his lead role in the television series Malgudi Days (1987) directed by Shankar Nag and in its film version, Swami And Friends. [1] [2]
Nayaker was born in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. He gained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master of Arts degree in Sociology from Mysore University and Bangalore University. He also holds a Diploma in cinematography and CA Foundation course. [3]
Manjunath, who started acting at age three, has been part of 68 films in Kannada, Telugu and Hindi, [3] but it was his role in Swami and Friends that fetched him recognition, in addition to six international, one national and a state award. The series was shot during his school vacation in 1985–86, and telecast in 1987. He acted in Super Hit movies of actor-director Shankar Nag such as Nodi Swamy Navirodu Hige , Sangliana and S.P. Sangliana 2. He also played the role of young Vijay Deenanath Chauhan in Agneepath (1990), which starred Amitabh Bachchan. He later co-starred alongside Mammootty in the 1992 Telugu film Swati Kiranam .[ citation needed ]
He quit acting at the age of 19 to concentrate on his studies. [2]
He, initially worked in IT companies publishing SSLC, PUC, Diploma and University Degree Results on the Internet through the website www.onlinebangalore.com and later went on work as a PR & Liaison professional and worked on the Bangalore – Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project (BMICP) and now runs his own Liaison company - VIC Pvt Ltd. Manjunath is married to athlete Swarnarekha, a sprinter and long jumper. [2]

Malgudi is a fictional town located in Agumbe situated in the Shivamogga district of the Indian state of Karnataka in the novels and short stories of R. K. Narayan. It forms the setting for most of Narayan's works. Starting with his first novel, Swami and Friends, all but one of his fifteen novels and most of his short stories take place here. Malgudi was a portmanteau of two Bengaluru localities - Malleshwara and Basavana Gudi.
Swami and Friends is a 1935 novel by R. K. Narayan, marking his debut as an English-language novelist from India. It is the first book in a trilogy set in the fictional town of Malgudi during British India. The novel is followed by The Bachelor of Arts and The English Teacher, completing the trilogy.

Malgudi Days is an Indian television series that premiered in 1986. Initially produced in both English and Hindi, the show is based on R. K. Narayan’s 1943 short story collection of the same name. Directed by Kannada actor and director Shankar Nag, The series was Produced by T.S. Narasimhan, with music composed by L. Vaidyanathan. Renowned cartoonist R. K. Laxman, Narayan's younger brother, contributed as the sketch artist. the series was revived in 2006 with 15 new episodes directed by Kavitha Lankesh.

The film stars Shankar Nag, Bhavya and Shivaranjini in the lead roles. The film was produced under Swarnagiri Movies banner and the music was scored and composed by Hamsalekha. The film was a blockbuster at the Kannada box office, the biggest hit of Shankar Nag's career. According to reports, the film was watched by 1,84,150 people over the course of 9 weeks at the Kapali theatre.
Harihar Gundurao Somashekar Rao was an Indian Kannada-language theatre artist and actor. He acted in over 300 plays and 60 films over a career that spanned 50 years. He was a recipient of the Karnataka State Government's award for his role in Mithileya Seetheyaru (1988).
Shankar Nag was an Indian film actor, director, screenwriter and producer known for his work in Kannada cinema. He directed seven Kannada films and one Marathi film. He also wrote the story and screenplay of many of these including a few films that he did not direct. After beginning his acting career in theatre, Nag took to films making his debut in a bit role in the 1978 Marathi anti-superstition drama Sarvasakshi. His Kannada film debut came in the same year with Ondanondu Kaladalli directed by Girish Karnad, in which Nag played the lead, a mercenary named Gandugali. The role that fetched him the Silver Peacock for the Best Actor Award (Male) at the 7th International Film Festival of India. Other than Minchina Ota, he also co-produced two of his directorial ventures — Janma Janmada Anubandha (1980) and Geetha (1981).
