Masthishka Maranam is an upcoming Indian Malayalam-language cyberpunk science fiction thriller film written, directed, and edited by Krishand.[1] The film features an ensemble cast led by Rajisha Vijayan, Niranj Maniyanpilla Raju, Vishnu Agasthya, and Divya Prabha.[2][3]Set in a futuristic version of Kochi in the year 2046, the film is produced by Vinayaka Ajith under the banner of Ajith Vinayaka Films.[4] It is scheduled for a theatrical release on 27 February 2026.[5]
The film is an experimental sci-fi that explores the "eyeball economy" and the voyeuristic nature of modern digital consumption.[4] The narrative centers on a protagonist who gains access to another person's memories, specifically looking at how female stardom is manufactured and packaged as a commodity.[1] According to director Krishand, the title (which translates to "Brain Death") serves as a metaphor for the hyperactivity and constant stimulation of the social media age, which he describes as "living without reflecting."[4]
The film was announced with a first-look poster featuring cyberpunk aesthetics, including futuristic goggles and virtual reality headsets.[1] It marks the latest collaboration for Krishand following his critically acclaimed works Avasavyuham (2022) and Purusha Pretham (2023).[7]
Filming was completed across various locations in Kerala, with the director using advanced visual effects to create the 2046 Kochi setting.[8] The music and background score are composed by Varkey, with cinematography by Prayag Mukundan.[9]
