Mata Ayer is a suburb of Kangar and a small town in the middle part of Perlis, Malaysia. It located on the way from Arau to Padang Besar. The name Mata Ayer is because almost the entire place has underground spring source. In Malay Language. spring means 'mata air' or old spelling as "mata ayer". The villagers in Mata Ayer exploit this advantage by digging wells for water sources in addition to the tap water provided by Syarikat Air Perlis (SAP) - 2025. Mata Ayer town is also known as "Pekan Pokok Petai" or translated as "Petai Tree Town" by older generations. It has grocery ships, Post Office, Barbers, Fruits stall, Vegetable, fish, fresh chicken, butcher, café, restaurants and even wholesale outlets. There are also motorcycle and car workshops, and it also famous with 3 hardware outlets (2025),

Wan Badariah Wan Saad is a Malaysian politician and lawyer who has served as a Member of the Perlis State Executive Council (EXCO) in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) state administration under Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli as well as Member of the Perlis State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Mata Ayer since November 2022. She is a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a component party of the PN coalition. She has served as the Division Committee Member of PAS of Arau since 2019 and Division Information Chief of Dewan Muslimat of PAS of Arau since 2021. She is also presently the only female Perlis EXCO Member.
