Robert Matthew Figger (born January 22, 1970) [1] is an American college basketball coach who is an assistant coach for the UMass Minutemen. He previously served as the head coach at Austin Peay and at UT Rio Grande Valley. [2]

Coaching career

Figger got his college coaching start at Wabash Valley in 1993 as an assistant coach, before moving on to Vincennes and Odessa College to serve as an assistant coach. Figger also had assistant coaching stops at South Alabama, and Arkansas before landing on Frank Martin's staff at Kansas State. Figger followed Martin as an assistant coach to South Carolina. [3] Figger was a part of the Gamecocks Final Four appearance in the 2017 NCAA tournament.

On April 6, 2017, Figger was named the 12th head coach in Austin Peay history, taking over for longtime coach Dave Loos. [2]

In March 2021, Figger left Austin Peay to become the head coach at UT Rio Grande Valley. [4]

On May 21, 2024, Figger was officially named as an assistant coach for the UMass Minutemen under head coach Frank Martin. [5]

Derek William Kellogg is an American college basketball coach who currently serves as an assistant coach for Creighton. Kellogg previously served as head coach of the Massachusetts Minutemen, his alma mater, being named to the position on April 23, 2008, replacing Travis Ford, who left to take the head coaching job at Oklahoma State University. He was removed from the position on March 9, 2017. After being let go by the Minutemen, he was named head coach of the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, which represented the school's Brooklyn campus. He was named the first head coach of the current LIU team upon its formation in July 2019 when LIU merged the Brooklyn athletic program with that of its Post campus, creating a new program that now competes as the LIU Sharks, and served in that role until he was fired and replaced by Rod Strickland on June 30, 2022. After his firing from LIU, Kellogg returned to his alma mater UMass as an assistant coach for one season before leaving for Creighton in 2023.

The Minutemen were led by fifth-year head coach Matt McCall and played their home games at the William D. Mullins Memorial Center in Amherst, Massachusetts as members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. They finished the season 15–16, 7–11 in A-10 play to finish in 10th place. They defeated George Washington in the second round of the A-10 tournament before losing to Dayton in the quarterfinals.

The 2021–22 Texas–Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's basketball team represented the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season as members of the Western Athletic Conference. The team was led by first-year head coach Matt Figger. With the exception of two games at Bert Ogden Arena, the Vaqueros played their home games at the UTRGV Fieldhouse. Both venues are in Edinburg, Texas.

They finished the season 12–17, 8–10 in OVC play to finish in a tie for fifth place. As the No. 6 seed in the OVC tournament, they lost to Tennessee Tech in the first round.
