Matt Simons (born February 20, 1987) is an American singer-songwriter based in Brooklyn, New York City. Self-releasing his first EP Living Proof in 2012, he has since gone on to release two full-length albums globally, achieving chart success across Europe, South Africa, and the Americas. [1]
Matt Simons was born and brought up in Palo Alto, California, attending Henry M. Gunn High School. Hailing from a musical family, his grandparents were both opera singers in Los Angeles. [2] Having played the saxophone from an early age, he got a degree in jazz saxophone performance at the Purchase College Conservatory, as well as learning to play on piano, switching to clarinet, guitar, and saxophone, eventually settling back on piano. [3]
He released his first EP Living Proof in 2010 and spent 2011 touring the United States and Europe, including the UK, Germany and the Netherlands. He usually plays piano and keyboards while singing. He also plays the saxophone, included improvised solos on the track "Fall in Line" and in live performances of "I'm Already Over You".
He released his debut album Pieces on 19 June 2012, "Gone" being his debut single. The 10-track album with 9 being his own compositions was produced by Nashville producer and sound engineer Stephen Goose by David.
Simons gained fame in the Netherlands after his rendition of "With You" taken from his album Pieces was picked as one of the theme songs on the Dutch soap television series Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden . The song reached No. 8 on the Dutch Single Top 100 chart and also peaked at No. 8 in the Dutch Top 40 chart. It was also picked as Mega Hit by the Dutch radio station 3FM in January 2013. [4] As a result the album Pieces also appeared on the Dutch Albums Top 100 chart.
His greatest commercial success came with "Catch & Release" title track from his similarly titled album Catch & Release, released in 2014. [5] Originally it became a hit in the Netherlands and Spain as it appeared on the album, but the song saw even further success when it was remixed in 2015 [5] by Dutch house duo producers Deepend, charting as "Catch & Release (Deepend Remix)" across Europe, reaching number 1 in Spain, Belgium, Germany and France, [6] as well as reaching gold status Norway, Portugal, France, Canada, South Africa, and Austria, and platinum status in Belgium, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Ireland, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. In 2018, he returned with the single "We Can Do Better", released April 4, and announced more music and his third album to be released later in the year. [8]

Notes
Anthonie Willem Constantijn Gneomar "Antonie" Kamerling was a Dutch actor and singer. He was member of the original cast of the Dutch soap opera Goede tijden, slechte tijden. He played in the films The Little Blonde Death (1993), All Stars (1997), and I Love You Too (2001). He also had starring roles in Dutch musical productions. He has become the voice of Geoff from Total Drama in the Dutch version of the series. Antonie Kamerling committed suicide in 2010.
Goede tijden, slechte tijden, also known as GTST or simply Goede tijden, is the longest-running Dutch soap opera, which began on 1 October 1990 on RTL4. The programme was the first daily soap in the Netherlands and Europe. The soap is produced by Joop van den Ende and to date over 6,300 episodes have been broadcast. It was initially based on the Australian soap The Restless Years, however it switched to original scripts during the third season and onwards. GTST is broadcast Monday to Friday at 20:00, and became available on demand via streaming platform Videoland from 2015.

Nick & Simon were a Dutch singer-songwriter duo composed of Simon Keizer and Nick Schilder. They became popular in their home country the Netherlands in 2006. 4 Fun was a Dutch boy band consisting of Jimmy Geduld, Winston Gerschtanowitz, Michiel de Zeeuw and Chris Zegers. They were already known as soap opera actors. Jimmy Geduld had acted in Goede tijden, slechte tijden, both Winston Gerschtanowitz and Michiel de Zeeuw played in Goudkust and Chris Zegers was in Onderweg naar Morgen. The band was formed as a competition to the girl band trio Linda, Roos & Jessica also of in competition Goede tijden, slechte tijden.
Gerwin Pardoel, better known by his stage name Gers Pardoel or mononymously as Gers, is a Dutch rapper. He rose to fame in 2009, due to his successful collaboration with The Opposites on the single "Broodje Bakpao". Pardoel's debut studio album Deze wereld is van jou was released in November 2011 and was certified Platinum by the NVPI. The Nederhop artist is best known for his number-one single "Ik neem je mee", which became the most successful Dutch-language and Dutch-artist hit in the Dutch Top 40 ever.
Pieces is the debut album of the American singer-songwriter and musician Matt Simons. Containing 10 tracks, nine of which his own compositions, the album was released in the United States on June 19, 2012. The album also contains one non-original track, "I Will Follow You into the Dark" which if from band Death Cab for Cutie. The debut single from the album produced by American producer and sound engineer Stephen Gause was "Gone" that was released in June 2012.

Deepend was originally a duo consisting of van den Aker and fellow Dutch producer Bob van Ratingen; van Ratingen left in 2018 and van den Aker now uses the Deepend name as a solo project.
