Matthew Sharpe (born July 24, 1991) is a Canadian triathlete. [1] In 2021, he competed in the men's triathlon at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. [2]
Sharpe has competed at two Commonwealth Games. In 2014, Sharpe finished 21st in the individual race and fourth in the mixed relay. In 2018, Sharpe finished ninth in the individual and fourth again in the mixed relay. [1]
In July 2021, Sharpe was named to Canada's 2020 Olympic team. [3] [4]
Triathlon had its Summer Olympics debut at the 2000 Games, in Sydney, when men's and women's individual events were first held, and has been contested since then. In 2021, at the delayed 2020 Summer Olympics a mixed team relay event was held for the first time. The sport, and its Olympic events, are governed by the International Triathlon Union, known since 2019 as World Triathlon.

Ryan Sissons is a New Zealand triathlete. Born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Sissons represented New Zealand at the 2012 London Olympics in the triathlon where he finished 33rd. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, he finished in 13th in the individual event and was part of the New Zealand mixed relay team that finished in 5th. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, he finished in 17th. At the 2017 ITU World series in Hamburg, Ryan finished 3rd. At the age of 32, Ryan retired in 2020 after the Tokyo Olympic Games were postponed, with no guarantees that the games would go ahead in 2021.

Jessica Learmonth is a British triathlete. Learmonth is a European, Commonwealth, Olympic and World Triathlon Series medal winner based in Leeds, England where she trains at the Leeds Triathlon Centre. She competed in the women's event and the mixed relay at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, winning silver medals in both disciplines. Learmonth won silver in the 2019 World Triathlon Series.

He won the silver medal in the Men's Triathlon at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and the gold medal in the Triathlon Mixed Relay at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Saturday 31 July 2021. He is also the 2022 Commonwealth Games triathlon champion in both the men's and mixed team events. The triathlon competitions at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are scheduled to run from 30 July to 5 August at Pont Alexandre III, featuring a total of 110 athletes who will compete in each of the men's and women's events. After a successful debut at the 2020 Summer Olympics, the mixed relay competition will remain in the triathlon program for the second time.
