The event served as the season-ending competition for the elite women's surfing tour. The 2015 WSL World Title race came down to a head-to-head battle between Hawaiian two-time World Champion Carissa Moore and American challenger Courtney Conlogue.
The World Title was mathematically decided during the early rounds of the competition. In Round 4, Conlogue, who needed a strong finish to keep her title hopes alive, was eliminated by fellow Hawaiian Coco Ho. Moore delivered a near-perfect performance in the Final, posting an astonishing total heat score of 19.50 out of a possible 20. This score included a unanimous Perfect 10-point ride on a massive barrel wave, which sealed her dominant victory. Fitzgibbons, despite achieving a high score of 17.90, finished as the runner-up.
