Mayur Puri is an Indian screenwriter, lyricist, actor and film-maker working in Mumbai. His film songwriting and dialogue work includes Farah Khan-directed films Om Shanti Om (2007), [1] and Happy New Year (2014), as well as the 3D dance franchise ABCD: Any Body Can Dance and ABCD: Any Body Can Dance 2 . [2] He directed his first short film, Firdaws, in 2017.
On 17 November 2014, the library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences selected the screenplay for Happy New Year for its permanent Core Collection. [3]
Mayur has also worked on the adaptation and translation of several U.S. films and TV shows into Hindi, including Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle (2018), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017), Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Maleficent: Mistress of Evil , The Lion King (2019), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Orange Is The New Black (2013–19), Jojo Rabbit (2019), Spies in Disguise (2019), and Locke and Key (2020).
Mayur was born in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where he completed most of his education, earning a master's degree from the University School of Languages and a one-year diploma in dramatics from the Drama Department of Gujarat College. [4]
He spent his early years writing and directing for local theatre and television, before moving from Ahmedabad to Mumbai in late 1999, where he began working as chief assistant director to Sanjay Gadhvi at Yash Raj Films. They worked on three films together: Tere Liye , Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (2002; Mayur's first as a screenwriter), and Dhoom (2004). During his first year in Mumbai, he also wrote and starred as the lead in a Gujarati play, Amastaa Amastaa (2001).
In 2004, Mayur left Yash Raj Films to work as an independent screenwriter and lyricist. His first film as an independent was My Name is Anthony Gonsalves (2008), an adaptation of Julius Caesar.[ citation needed ] His breakthrough as a screenwriter was Om Shanti Om (2007), from which several phrases entered the film-quote lexicon. [5]
Puri was the creative director for the animation film Jumbo (2008) produced by Percept Picture Company, and co-wrote Blue (2009), the first Indian film to be shot extensively underwater. [6] He then wrote the script for Prince (2010), in which he also appeared in a supporting role.
In 2009, Mayur took a sabbatical from Bollywood; in 2010, he founded Story Circus, a theatre production group that creates live theatre and storytelling productions for educational institutions and other clients,[ citation needed ] and in 2011, he founded FilmGoa, a joint initiative with Goa University which provides training and job support to aspiring film-makers and facilitates film making in Goa. [7] Mayur's next Bollywood project was Remo D'Souza's directorial debut F.A.L.T.U (2011), the script and screenplay for which he had written a few years previously.
Through his Story Circus project, Mayur reconnected with director Farah Khan, whose children were attending one of the workshops, and began working on the script for her next project Happy New Year . Around the same time, he began working with composer Pritam on songs for Race 2 (2013) and I Love New Year (2013). "Be Intehaan" from Race 2 was later ranked as the 7th most romantic song of 2013, according to a poll in The Times of India . [8] By 2012, Mayur had returned to full-time writing, contributing additional dialogue and lyrics for Remo D'Souza's next musical ABCD: Any Body Can Dance (2013).
Happy New Year was released in 2014, with a script written by Mayur. On 17 November 2014, the library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences selected the screenplay for Happy New Year for its permanent Core Collection. [3] He also worked on the script and song lyrics for ABCD: Any Body Can Dance 2 (2015), and provided lyrics for films including Humshakals , Entertainment (2014), Kick (2014), and All is Well (2015).[ citation needed ]
In 2017, Mayur directed his first short film, Firdaws, which was entered into the official selection at a number of festivals,[ citation needed ] winning a number of awards.[ citation needed ]

Priyadarshan is an Indian film director and screenwriter who predominantly works in Malayalam and Hindi cinema. The massive success his movies enjoyed mirrors the collective conscience of the people, particularly the elite, of that era - a period with which the filmmaker is intimately connected.
Om Prakash Puri, was an Indian actor who appeared in mainstream commercial Hindi films as well as Urdu, Malayalam, Bengali, Kannada, English, Punjabi, Gujarati, Telugu, and Marathi films, as well as independent and art films and also starred in several international cinema. Om Shanti Om is a 2007 Indian Hindi-language masala film written and directed by Farah Khan, co-written by Mayur Puri and Mushtaq Shiekh, and produced by Gauri Khan under Red Chillies Entertainment. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Shreyas Talpade, Kirron Kher, and Arjun Rampal. Exploring two parallel timelines, it follows Om Prakash Makhija (Khan), an obscure 1970s actor, who dies in a suspicious on-set fire involving his crush, well-known yesteryears superstar Shanti Priya (Padukone), and is reincarnated in the present day as superstar Om Kapoor, where he seeks to exact revenge on the perpretrator, Shanti's fiance and powerful producer Mukesh Mehra (Rampal).
Vishal Dadlani is an Indian singer, songwriter, actor and music composer. He is one half of the duo Vishal–Shekhar, Front Man and vocalist of one of India's leading rock bands Pentagram.
Ananth Narayan Mahadevan, also credited as Anant Mahadevan, is an Indian screenwriter, actor, and film director of Hindi and Marathi as well as Tamil Films and television shows. Having been an integral part of the Indian television serials and Hindi films since the 1980s, he is also involved in the professional English and Hindi theatre.
Singh Is Kinng is a 2008 Indian Hindi-language action comedy film directed by Anees Bazmee from a screenplay by Bazmee and Suresh Nair. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Om Puri, Ranvir Shorey, Neha Dhupia, Javed Jaffrey, Sonu Sood, and Sudhanshu Pandey. In the film, Happy Singh (Kumar) is sent to Australia to reunite Lakhan Singh (Sood), a crime boss, with his ill father but finds himself facing love and trouble instead. The film also featured a song and a music video with American rapper Snoop Dogg. A major part of the film was shot in Australia. The film marked the fourth collaboration of Kumar and Kaif after Humko Deewana Kar Gaye (2006), Namastey London (2007) and Welcome (2007). The spelling of the word "king" in the film's title with an additional letter "n" was based on advice provided by a numerologist.
Kunwara (Bachelor) is a 2000 Indian Hindi comedy film directed by David Dhawan, with cinematography by Chota K. Naidu, and was released on July 14, 2000. This film opened with negative reviews from critics, leading to an unsuccessful run at the box office. The film stars Govinda, Urmila Matondkar, Nagma, Om Puri, Kader Khan and Johnny Lever in lead roles. The film is a remake of the Telugu film Bavagaru Bagunnara.

Ajab Gazabb Love is a 2012 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy film directed by Sanjay Gadhvi and produced by Vashu Bhagnani. The film stars Arjun Rampal in a double role, along with Jackky Bhagnani opposite Nidhi Subbaiah in lead roles and Darshan Jariwala and Kirron Kher in supporting roles, whilst Arshad Warsi appears in a cameo role. The screenplay and dialogues were written by Mayur Puri. The theatrical trailer of the film revealed on 13 August 2012, whilst the film released worldwide on 26 October 2012, and received mostly negative response. The storyline is remade from the Telugu film Seema Tapakai.

Happy New Year is a 2014 Indian Hindi-language action comedy film directed by Farah Khan and produced by Gauri Khan under the banner of Red Chillies Entertainment. The film features an ensemble cast of Deepika Padukone, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani, Vivaan Shah and Jackie Shroff. It was distributed worldwide by Yash Raj Films. In the film, a bunch of losers transform themselves into a team that wins over the hearts of the people in the city and across the world, all as part of their quest to pull off the biggest diamond heist ever seen.
Indian actress Deepika Padukone primarily appears in Hindi films. Her first screen appearance was in Himesh Reshammiya's music video "Naam Hai Tera" in 2005. Padukone made her film debut by playing the title role in the Kannada-language film Aishwarya (2006). Her first Hindi film release came the following year with Farah Khan's melodrama Om Shanti Om, in which she played dual roles opposite Shah Rukh Khan. She won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for it. Her sole film role in 2008 was as one of Ranbir Kapoor's love interests in Bachna Ae Haseeno. Padukone's first film release of 2009, the kung fu comedy Chandni Chowk to China, proved to be a box office flop, but her next release, Imtiaz Ali's romance Love Aaj Kal, opposite Saif Ali Khan, was a success. Of Padukone's five film releases in 2010, only the comedy Housefull was financially profitable. The series of poorly received films continued with both her 2011 releases, Aarakshan and Desi Boyz.
Disney's ABCD 2, also known as Any Body Can Dance 2, is a 2015 Indian Hindi-language dance film directed and choreographed by Remo D'Souza and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur under Walt Disney Pictures. A stand-alone sequel to the 2013 film ABCD: Any Body Can Dance, the film stars Prabhu Deva, Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles alongside Sushant Pujari, and is partially inspired by the life accounts of Suresh Mukund and Vernon Monteiro, played respectively by Dhawan and Pujari, founders of the "fictitious dance crew" The Kings, who went on to win the World Hip Hop Dance Championship in San Diego.
Tushar Hiranandani is an Indian film director and screenwriter. He has written films like Masti (2004), Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? (2010), Housefull 2 (2012), ABCD: Any Body Can Dance (2013), Ek Villain (2014), Dishoom (2016) and Half Girlfriend (2017) among others. He then made his directorial debut with Saand Ki Aankh (2019) and went onto make Srikanth (2024). In 2023, he directed Sony LIV series Scam 2003.
