Md. Giashuddin Miah is a Bangladeshi academic and vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University. [1] [2]

Early life

Miah was born in 1960. [3] He did his bachelor's degree and masters in Agronomy at the Bangladesh Agricultural University in 1982 and 1984 respectively. [3] He completed his PhD in 1993 at the Central Luzon State University. [3] From 1995 to 1996, he did his post-graduate diploma at Kyushu University. [3] He did some post graduate research at Université Laval and the University of Nottingham. [4]

Career

Miah joined the Bangladesh Tea Research Institute in 1984. [3] He joined Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute the next year as a senior researcher. [3] He joined the Institute of Postgraduate Studies in Agriculture (renamed and upgraded to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University in 1998) in 1993 as an assistant professor. [3]

Miah is a former president of Ganotantrik Shikkhok Parishad, the pro-Awami League teachers' forum. [5] Miah is the co-chairman of the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research. [6]

On 11 June 2017, Miah was appointed the Vice-Chancellor of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University. [3] [7] He complained to the Ministry of Education about Shahidur Rahman Khan, Vice-Chancellor of the Khulna Agricultural University, along with four other members regarding Khan recruiting his family members at the university. [8] Miah is a member of the syndicate body of Khulna Agricultural University. [8] On 24 May 2021, he was re-appointed the Vice-Chancellor of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University before his term ended on 10 June. [9] [10] He hosted Ichiguchi Tomohide, Bangladesh head of Japan International Cooperation Agency and thanked Japan International Cooperation Agency for providing aid and support to the university. It is the first maritime university in Bangladesh, the 3rd maritime university in South Asia and the 12th maritime university in the world. It has issued its first calls for admission in December, 2016. The BSc in Oceanography program was started on 3rd January 2017 at the University's temporary campus in Mirpur, as part of the first-ever launch of the Bachelor class in the University. Then in 2018, the first batch of BSc in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering classes started. Two more program classes started in 2019. LLB in Maritime Law and BBA in Port Management and Logistics. 2020 BSc in Maritime Fisheries first batch admission and classes start.

It is funded by the government and is Bangladesh's first higher education institution on aerospace engineering. Its campus is in Lalmonirhat. The first student admission program began in January 2020.

Air Vice Marshal ASM Fakhrul Islam, OSP, GUP, ndc, afwc, psc, GD (P) is a Bangladesh Air Force officer and Incumbent Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University. Prior to Join here, he was Commandant of Bangabandhu Aeronautical Centre. He also served as Air Officer Commanding(AOC) at BAF Base Zahurul Haque, Patenga, Chattogram.

He was the General officer commanding of 66 Infantry Division & Area Commander of Rangpur Area of the Bangladesh Army in the Rangpur Region.
