Melikhaya Xego is a South African politician. A member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), he served as a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament from 22 May 2019 until 28 January 2023. He is the former Provincial Chairperson of the party.
Xego was born in the town of Alice in the now-dissolved Cape Province. [1]
He served as the Provincial Organiser of the EFF until November 2014 when he was designated to the post of Provincial Secretary. He soon succeeded Bernard Joseph as the Provincial Chairperson of the party. [1]
For the 2014 general elections, Xego was a candidate for the Western Cape Provincial Parliament. Due to the party's electoral performance, he was not elected. [2]
In August 2016, Xego was elected to the Cape Town City Council and inaugurated as a councillor on 10 August 2016. The EFF caucus elected him as a party whip. [3]
In May 2019, Xego was elected to the Western Cape Provincial Parliament as the EFF's support in the provincial election increased. The party had gained one seat, bringing the party's caucus to two seats in the 6th Provincial Parliament. He was sworn into office on 22 May 2019, and failed to serve a full term in office. Xego's resignation was submitted to Speaker Daylin Mitchell on 28 January 2023. Xego was the party's caucus leader and served alongside Nosipho Makamba-Botya who would later also resign alongside him. [4] [5] [6] [7]
Daniel Plato, known as Dan Plato, is a South African politician and a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament since January 2022, previously serving from June 2011 until October 2018. He is the former mayor of Cape Town, a position he held for two nonconsecutive terms from May 2009 until June 2011 and again from November 2018 until October 2021. From June 2011 to October 2018, he was the Western Cape Provincial Minister of Community Safety.
John Henry Steenhuisen is a South African politician who has served as the twentieth leader of the Opposition since October 2019 and has been the federal leader of the Democratic Alliance since November 2020, having served as the interim leader for one year from November 2019. He was chief whip of the official opposition from May 2014 until October 2019. Ideologically, Steenhuisen has been described as a liberal, a supporter of non-racialism and a firm believer in racial equality.
Solly Tshepiso Msimanga is a South African politician serving as the Leader of the Opposition in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since May 2019. He has been a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since February 2019, having previously served from 2014 to 2016. Msimanga was the Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality from 2016 to 2019 and the DA Provincial Chairperson from 2014 to 2017. He was the Democratic Alliance's Gauteng Premier candidate for the 2019 elections.

Beverley Ann Schäfer is a South African politician serving as the Deputy Speaker of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament since May 2019. The Shadow Cabinet of Mmusi Maimane was formed on 5 June 2014 following his election as Parliamentary Leader of the Democratic Alliance and Leader of the Opposition on 29 May 2014. The Democratic Alliance parliamentary caucus also elected other caucus leadership. John Steenhuisen was elected Chief Whip with Anchen Dreyer as Caucus Chairperson. These elections all occurred following the 2014 general elections, in which the Democratic Alliance retained its post as the Official Opposition in the National Assembly of South Africa.

Daylin Gary Mitchell is a South African politician who has been the Speaker of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament since December 2022. A member of the governing Democratic Alliance, he has been a Member of the Provincial Parliament since September 2015. He had previously served as the Provincial Minister of Transport and Public Works from May 2021 until April 2022 and then as Provincial Minister of Mobility until his election as speaker.
Mogamad Nazier Paulsen is a Western Cape-based Member of the National Assembly for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). He previously served as a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament.
Gillion Bosman is a South African politician serving as both the chairperson of the Standing Committee on Social Development and the Petitions Committee in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament since June 2019. He became a member of the provincial parliament in May 2019 following the 2019 general election. He had formerly served as a municipal councillor of the City of Cape Town from August 2016 to May 2019. Bosman is a member of the governing Democratic Alliance.
Andrew Arnolds is a South African politician of the Economic Freedom Fighters who has been representing the Western Cape in the National Council of Provinces since 2019.
Thembinkosi Tevin Apleni is a South African politician who has been serving as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces since May 2019. He is one of six permanent delegates from the Eastern Cape. Apleni is a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and serves as the party's deputy provincial chairperson. He was previously the party's provincial secretary.
Refiloe Nt'sekhe is a South African politician who serves as a Deputy Federal Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance (DA). She was elected to the position at the 2015 Federal Congress. Nt'sekhe was elected as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature in the 2014 general election. She was also one of two national spokespeople of the DA from 2015 to 2020.

Nosipho Makamba-Botya is a South African politician serving as a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). She became an MPP in May 2019 and serves as the party's chief whip. Makamba-Botya is also the deputy chairperson of the EFF in the province.
Mireille Mary Wenger is a South African politician who has been the Western Cape Provincial Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities since May 2022 and a Democratic Alliance (DA) Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament since May 2014. She was Chief Whip of the Majority Party from May 2019 to May 2022.

Bongiwe Mbinqo-Gigaba is a South African politician. She is the current chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Basic Education in the National Assembly of South Africa and a Member of Parliament representing the African National Congress. Prior to serving in parliament, she was a Member of the Executive Council (MEC) in the Northern Cape provincial government.
Denis Joseph is a South African politician from the Western Cape. A member of the Democratic Alliance, he was elected as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces in 2011. He served in the NCOP until his election to the Western Cape Provincial Parliament in 2014. After the 2019 election, Joseph returned to Parliament to serve as an MP in the National Assembly.
Sheilla Tembalam Xego is a South African politician, educator and trade unionist from the Eastern Cape who has been a member of the National Assembly since 2011. Prior to entering parliament, she was a councillor of the Mbhashe Local Municipality from 2000 to 2006 and the Amathole District Municipality from 2006 to 2010. Xego is a member of the African National Congress.
