Metrostav a.s. is a Czech based universal construction company. It is the largest construction company in the Czech Republic [1] and second largest in Central and South-Eastern Europe. [2]

History

Formed in 1990 from a state company of the same name after the fall of the communist regime in the country. Originally Metrostav was created in 1971 with a sole purpose to build Prague metro. After 1990 it was transformed into a universal construction company active in all fields of construction business. Metrostav is also a leading member of Metrostav Group Concern. [3]

Metrostav is divided into 8 construction divisions based on their focus. [4]

Metrostav is also a leading member of Metrostav Group Concern, that includes among others: Subterra a.s., BeMo Tunelling GmbH, Pragis a.s., Metrostav Development a.s., Metrostav Slovakia a.s., SQZ, s.r.o., BES s.r.o., PK Doprastav, a.s., Doprastav Asfalt a.s., Metrostav Deutschland GmbH and Metrostav Nemovitostní, closed investment fund, a.s. The main market of the company is the Czech Republic, but it is increasing its presence in the neighboring countries Slovakia, Poland and in Nordic countries.[ citation needed ]

Line C is a line on the Prague Metro. It crosses the right-bank half of the city center in the north-south directions and turns to the east at both ends of the line. The line is 22.41 kilometres (13.92 mi) long and includes 20 stations, journey from one end to the other taking approx. 35 min.

Orlen Unipetrol is a Czech joint stock company owned by a Polish oil company PKN Orlen. The company is engaged in crude oil processing and the production, distribution, and sales of fuels and petrochemical products – mainly plastics and fertilisers – in the Czech Republic and the Central European region. It is the only crude oil processing company in the Czech Republic, and its earnings rank it among the ten largest Czech companies. It was founded in 1994, and in 2004, it became part of the PKN Orlen group, which owns 100% shares in the company. Blanka Tunnel Complex is a part of the inner Prague Municipal Ring Road. It is the longest road tunnel in the Czech Republic and the longest city tunnel in Europe. The complex connects the area west of Prague Castle with Trója district in the northeast. Its length is about 5.5 km and consists of three tunnels: Bubenečský, Dejvický and Brusnický. The tunnel complex was designed to relieve the historic center of Prague from heavy traffic. In a first 49-month period it was used by 139 million cars, according to official statistics.
