Michaela Jean Burton [1] is an American actress, cosplayer and host. She is known for her contributions in the gaming space, having hosted for Achievement Hunter, The Know, the Overwatch League and voicing a character in 100ft Robot Golf .

Burton has been referred to as a "nerd renaissance woman" by The New York Times [2] and has been noted as one of only a few professional black cosplayers by Essence . [3]

Career

Acting

In 2015, Burton portrayed the role of Jules in the film Lazer Team (2015). [4] She also briefly appeared in The Eleven Little Roosters (2017).[ citation needed ]

She voiced Vahni in 100ft Robot Golf (2016). [5] Burton is known for her roles in actual play RPG web shows such as Wizards of the Coast's Destiny & Doom (2017) [6] and Nights of Eveningstar (2020). [7] [8] Burton also guest starred in Critical Role 's second campaign [9] [10] and in L.A. by Night . [11]

Burton plays ensign Alandra La Forge, the daughter of Burton's father's character, Geordi La Forge, in the third season of Star Trek: Picard . [12]

Cosplay

Burton began cosplaying in high school after attending a convention with a friend. [3] [13] She was commissioned by Riot Games to create League of Legends cosplay in 2019. [14] She has also received praise for cosplays of characters from The Legend of Zelda . [15] [16]

Hosting

Burton, who had been a fan of the company since she was a child, joined Rooster Teeth in 2016 after meeting the founders and other employees. [3] She began as a host in the gaming division Achievement Hunter, [4] but later moved to the entertainment news division The Know. [17] She left Rooster Teeth in 2018, stating in 2020 that this was due to racial issues at the company. [18]

In 2019, Burton joined the Overwatch League as a "League Insider", conducting interviews with the players. [19] She left in 2020. [20]

Burton has hosted multiple Dungeons & Dragons events for Wizards of the Coast such as D&D Live 2019: The Descent [21] [22] and D&D Live 2021. [23] Burton began cohosting the web series Critter Hug in 2020 for Critical Role Productions. [24] [25]

She was a speaker at Ubisoft's monthly Black Game Pros event in 2020. [26] She hosted a cosplay competition at Glitchcon 2020. [27] [28] Burton was a cohost for a Star Trek anniversary stream in 2020 [29] and multiple Star Trek streams on Paramount+ in 2021. [30] [31]

Burton hosted The PC Gaming Show during E3 2021 [32] and during Summer Game Fest 2022. [33] She cohosted an episode of 10 Minute Power Hour (10MPH) with the Game Grumps, entitled “HEDBANZ but it’s making us doubt our sense of self…w/ Mica Burton!” The episode was published on March 18, 2024.

Personal life

Burton is the daughter of makeup artist Stephanie Cozart-Burton and actor LeVar Burton. [34]

Burton graduated from the University of Michigan in 2016 with a BFA in acting. [3]

<i>Heroes of Cosplay</i> American TV show

Heroes of Cosplay is a 2013 Syfy channel reality television show co-produced by Mark Cronin, Courtland Cox and Dave Caplan of 51 Minds Entertainment. The show's first season's six episodes follows nine cast members as they compete in cosplay events at various conventions across the United States, attending Wizard World Portland, Emerald City Comicon, MegaCon, Anime Matsuri and Planet Comicon. The series was renewed for a continued season 1 in 2014, with a few new additions to the cast and will primarily be set in Los Angeles and Atlanta areas. The second season, billed as "season 1.5", features events outside the United States: Arte Cosplay 2 in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Ottawa Pop Expo in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Katie George is an American cosplayer who has been cosplaying since 2004 and lives in Atlanta. George has been a special guest at conventions in the United States and abroad, including MomoCon, Pensacon and more, hosting panels and acting as a judge in costume contests. In 2012, she was featured in the television documentary Cosplay: Crafting a Secret Identity and represented the US at the World Cosplay Summit in Nagoya, Japan. In 2014, she joined the cast of the reality television show Heroes of Cosplay.

Ariana Faith Carlson, known professionally as Anna Faith, is an Instagram model and cosplayer from Florida. She is best known for impersonating the character of Queen Elsa from the Disney animated film Frozen.

<i>Cosplay Melee</i> American reality television show

Cosplay Melee is a Syfy channel reality television show executive produced by Jay Peterson and Todd Lubin, which was announced in February 2017 and premiered its first season of six episodes on March 21, 2017. The series is hosted by Yvette Nicole Brown, and follows cosplayers as they put their skills to the test. Cosplay Melee is Syfy's second cosplay-competition series, after the two-season series Heroes of Cosplay in 2013.

Rule 63 is an Internet meme that states that, as a rule, "for every character there is a gender swapped version of that character". It is one of the "Rules of the Internet" that began in 2006 as a Netiquette guide on 4chan and were eventually expanded upon by including deliberately mocking rules, of which Rule 63 is an example. It began to see general use in fandom communities as a term to refer to both fan-made and official gender flips of existing fictional characters.

Liyuu is a Chinese singer, voice actress and cosplayer who is affiliated with HoriPro International and signed to Lantis. Beginning her activities as a cosplayer before 2016 under the stage name 黎狱, she made her debut as a singer in 2020 with the release of her first single "Magic Words", the title track of which was used as the opening theme of the anime television series Hatena Illusion. Her music has also been featured in I'm Standing on a Million Lives. She is also known for her role as Tang Keke in the mixed-media project Love Live! Superstar!!. She is nicknamed Li-chan by her fellow Liella! members.
