Michael Bohl

Michael Bohl OAM is an Australian swimming coach, working for the Australian Swim Team and Griffith University.

Bohl is the coach of swimmer Emma McKeon, who represented Australia in the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2020 Summer Olympics, and former coach of triple Olympic gold medallist Stephanie Rice.

Bohl has been the coach of Australian swimmers who have been on the podium at every summer Olympics between the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2020 Summer Olympics. [1] [2]

Bohl received the Australian Sports Medal in 2000, recognising him as a "Long Serving ASI Committee Member". [3] He was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the 2010 Australian Day Honours for "service to swimming as a competitor and coach". [4]

At the 2015 Australian Institute of Sport Awards Bohl was named Coach of the Year. [5]

In 2020, Bohl started co-coaching Australian competitive swimmer and multiple-time world junior champion Lani Pallister with Janelle Pallister. [6] [7]

For the 2021 year, Bohl was the recipient of the "Coach of the Best Female Swimmer" from FINA, an award presented in conjunction with the FINA Athletes of the Year awards, for being the coach of the "Best Female Swimmer" award recipient, Emma McKeon. [8] He also received the "Olympic Program Coach of the Year" award from Swimming Australia for the year. [9]

In 2022, Brendon Smith, an Olympic bronze medalist from the 2020 Summer Olympic Games, started training at Griffith University with Bohl as his coach. [10]

Emma Jennifer McKeon, is an Australian competitive swimmer. She is an eight-time world record holder, three current and five former, in relays. Her total career haul of 11 Olympic medals following the 2020 Olympic Games made her Australia's most decorated Olympian and included one gold medal from the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and four gold medals from the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. With four gold and three bronze medals she was the most decorated athlete across all sports at the 2020 Summer Olympics, and tied for the most medals won by a woman in a single Olympic Games. She has also won 20 medals, including five gold medals, at the World Aquatics Championships; and a record 20 medals, including 14 gold, at the Commonwealth Games.

Abbigail "Abbey" Weitzeil is an American competition swimmer specializing in sprint freestyle. A multiple time Olympic medalist, she won a gold medal in the 4x100-meter medley relay for swimming in the preliminary heats and a silver medal in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay at the 2016 Rio Olympics. At the 2020 Summer Olympics she won a silver medal in the 4x100-meter medley relay and a bronze medal in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay, swimming in the final of both events. She is the American record holder in the 50-yard freestyle and is part of the American Record in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay.

Kyle Chalmers, is an Australian competitive swimmer. He is a world record holder in the short course 100 metre freestyle, 4×100 metre medley relay, and long course 4×100 metre mixed freestyle relay. He is the Oceanian and Australian record holder in the short course 50 metre butterfly and 50 metre freestyle.

Florian Wellbrock is a German swimmer. He is the world record holder in the short course 1500 metre freestyle. He won gold medals in the 10 kilometre open water swim and 1500 metre freestyle at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships. At the 2020 Summer Olympics he won the gold medal in the 10 kilometre open water swim and the bronze medal in the 1500 metre freestyle. In December 2021, he won a gold medal in the 1500 metre freestyle at the 2021 World Short Course Championships.

Janelle Pallister is an Australian swimmer and coach. She competed in two events at the 1988 Summer Olympics. At the 1990 Commonwealth Games she won a gold medal.

Ariarne Elizabeth Titmus, is an Australian swimmer. She is the reigning Olympic champion in the women's 200-metre and 400-metre freestyle, having won both events at the 2020 Summer Olympics, and the world record holder in the long course 400-metre freestyle event. In 2019 and 2020, she competed representing the Cali Condors in the International Swimming League.

Kaylee Rochelle McKeown is an Australian swimmer and triple Olympic gold medalist. She is the world record holder in the long course 50 metre backstroke, 100 metre backstroke and both the long course and short course 200 metre backstroke. She won gold in both the 100 metre and 200 metre backstroke, as well as the 4×100 metre medley relay at the 2020 Summer Olympics staged in Tokyo in 2021. In 2023, she was named as the "Best Female Swimmer of the Year" by World Aquatics, after sweeping gold in all three events of backstroke at all three World Cup legs, held in Berlin, Athens and Budapest in October, 2023.

Hannah Margaret McNair "Maggie" Mac Neil is a Canadian competitive swimmer. A 100 metre butterfly event specialist, she is the 2020 Olympic champion, 2019 World (LC) champion, two-time World (SC) champion, 2022 Commonwealth champion, and 2023 Pan American champion. She holds the current Americas record (55.59s), the short course world record, the Commonwealth record, and Pan American record in the event.

Brendon Smith is an Australian swimmer. He won the bronze medal in the 400 metre individual medley at the 2020 Summer Olympics and has competed in the Summer Universiade and the 2021 Australian Swimming Trials.

As of July 2023 she is the world record holder in the women's individual 200m freestyle.

Meg Harris, is an Australian swimmer. She is a world record holder in the 4×100 metre freestyle relay. She competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics, where she won a gold medal in the 4×100 metre freestyle relay and a bronze medal in the 4×200 metre freestyle relay. She also won an individual gold medal at the 2017 Bahamas Commonwealth Youth Games in the 50 freestyle. She is also the co-founder of the clothing brand Dally&Co Label.

Chelsea Mae Hodges is an Australian swimmer. She competed in the women's 100 metre breaststroke at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Dean Boxall is an Australian swimming coach.

Lani Pallister is an Australian competitive swimmer. She is a world record holder in two sports, with a world record in swimming, the short course 4×200-metre freestyle relay, and world records in life saving for the youth age group in the 100-metre rescue medley and 200-metre super lifesaver. She holds the Oceanian, Commonwealth, and Australian records in the short course 1500-metre freestyle and the Australian record in the short course 800-metre freestyle. She is the first female World Short Course champion in the 1500-metre freestyle, winning the inaugural event for women at the 2022 edition. Over the course of the 2022 World Short Course Championships, she won the gold medal in each of the four events she contested.
