Michael Fedele (born March 30,1955,in Minturno,Italy) is an Italian-American politician. A member of the Republican Party,he served as the 107th Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut from 2007 to 2011. [3]
Following the decision on November 9,2009,by incumbent Governor M. Jodi Rell not to seek re-election,Fedele announced his candidacy to seek the office of governor in the 2010 Connecticut gubernatorial election. He was a candidate in the party's primary contest,but narrowly lost the nomination on August 10 to former United States Ambassador to Ireland Tom Foley. [4] Fedele ran for Mayor of Stamford in 2013. [5] He lost the election to David Martin. [6]
Fedele is the founder and CEO of Stamford-based Pinnacle Group,a nationwide IT firm. Fedele started his public service as a member of Stamford's Board of Representatives,serving the city's 13th District from 1987–1991. Fedele represented Stamford's 147th District in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1992 until 2002. He ran for the Connecticut Senate that year,losing to Democrat Andrew J. McDonald. [7] On January 3,2007,Fedele was sworn in as Connecticut's 107th Lieutenant Governor,serving with Governor Rell.
In 2009,Fedele received the Prescott Bush Award,the highest honor that the Connecticut Republican Party awards to a member of the Party. Boy's Town of Italy also honored Fedele with their 2009 Humanitarian of the Year Award. [8]
Fedele attended Fairfield University and Norwalk State Technical College.
Fedele is a native of Minturno,Italy. He has raised three children in his hometown of Stamford with his wife Carol.
Mary Carolyn "Jodi" Rell is an American former politician who served as the 87th governor of Connecticut from 2004 to 2011. Rell also served as the state's 105th lieutenant governor of Connecticut from 1995 to 2004 under Governor John G. Rowland,and became governor after Rowland resigned from office. As of 2024,Rell is the very last Republican and woman to officially serve as Governor of Connecticut to date.
Kevin B. Sullivan is an American politician. A Democrat,he was the 106th Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut,from 2004 to 2007. He was elected to the Connecticut State Senate in 1986 and served as Senate President Pro Tempore from 1997 to 2004.
The 2006 Connecticut gubernatorial election occurred on November 7,2006. Incumbent Republican Jodi Rell became governor when John G. Rowland resigned on corruption charges in 2004. Rell had an approval rating of 70% as of October 19,2006,and polls showed her leading the Democratic nominee,New Haven mayor John DeStefano by a near 30-point margin. As expected,she won the election to a full term in a landslide. DeStefano defeated Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy in the Connecticut Democratic gubernatorial primary on August 8. As of 2024,this is the last time a Republican and woman was elected Governor of Connecticut,and the last time any gubernatorial candidate won every county in the state to date.
John DeStefano Jr. is an American politician who served as the 49th mayor of New Haven,Connecticut,from 1994 until 2014. He was the Democratic nominee in 2006 for Governor of Connecticut,unsuccessfully challenging incumbent Republican Governor M. Jodi Rell. He was also the named defendant in the landmark 2009 U.S. Supreme Court case of Ricci v. DeStefano. John DeStefano is the son of a New Haven police officer. John and his wife Kathy DeStefano met at the University of Connecticut as undergraduates,where he also earned a Masters in Public Administration. Kathy DeStefano is a first grade teacher in West Haven,Connecticut,and they are the parents of two adult sons.

Incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator Chris Dodd suffered from dropping approval ratings in the past few years due to major controversies,leading him to announce in January 2010 that he would retire,instead of seeking a sixth term. As Dodd was a Democrat,Richard Blumenthal,incumbent State Attorney General,announced on the same day that he would run for Dodd's seat. The Connecticut Democratic Party nominated Blumenthal on May 21. Businesswoman Linda McMahon won the state party's nominating convention and the August 10 Republican primary to become the Republican candidate. This was the first open Senate seat in Connecticut since 1980 where Dodd was first elected. Blumenthal was the only non-incumbent Democrat to win a non-special election in 2010.

As of 2024,this is the last time the Governor’s office in Connecticut changed partisan control.

Incumbent Democratic Governor Ned Lamont ran for re-election to a second term in office. The race simultaneously took place with the election to the state's Class III Senate seat. This election featured a rematch of the previous 2018 gubernatorial election,pitting Lamont against Republican Bob Stefanowski,whom he previously defeated by 3.2% of the vote. This time Lamont won re-election by a wider margin,becoming the first Democrat to win a gubernatorial election by more than 5 points in the state since 1986.
