Michael John Wright (born 3 May 1956) is an Australian politician. He was a Labor Party member of the South Australian House of Assembly seat of Lee from 1997 to 2014.

Wright has a Bachelor of Education, and held ministry positions in the Rann cabinet from 2002 to 2011.

Prior to entering parliament, Wright was involved with the Australian Workers' Union from the late 1980s until the mid 1990s. [1] He is the son of former Deputy Premier of South Australia Jack Wright. [2]

Wright did not recontest his seat at the 2014 election. [3]

Electoral district of Wright

Wright is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. Named after the 19th century South Australian architect Edmund Wright, it is a 21 km2 (8.1 sq mi) suburban electorate in Adelaide's outer north-east, taking in the suburbs of Brahma Lodge, Gulfview Heights, Modbury Heights, Redwood Park, Salisbury South and Wynn Vale, as well as parts of Salisbury East and Surrey Downs.

He was the first SA Greens representative to be elected to the Parliament of South Australia, at the 2006 election. 2010 Australian federal election

The 2010 Australian federal election was held on Saturday, 21 August 2010 to elect members of the 43rd Parliament of Australia. The incumbent centre-left Australian Labor Party led by Prime Minister Julia Gillard won a second term against the opposition centre-right Liberal Party of Australia led by Opposition Leader Tony Abbott and Coalition partner the National Party of Australia, led by Warren Truss, after Labor formed a minority government with the support of three independent MPs and one Australian Greens MP.

The 2014 South Australian state election elected members to the 53rd Parliament of South Australia on 15 March 2014, to fill all 47 seats in the House of Assembly and 11 of 22 seats in the Legislative Council. The record-16-year-incumbent Australian Labor Party (SA) government led by Premier Jay Weatherill was seeking a fifth four-year term, but was defeated by the opposition Liberal Party of Australia (SA), led by Opposition Leader Steven Marshall. Nick Xenophon's new SA Best party unsuccessfully sought to obtain the balance of power.

John David "Jack" Wright was an Australian politician and Deputy Premier of South Australia under John Bannon from 1982 to 1985. Wright represented the House of Assembly seat of Adelaide for the South Australian Branch of the Australian Labor Party from 1971 to 1985. Wright was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the 1986 Australia Day Honours for "service to politics, industrial relations and the community".
