Michoel Muchnik is an artist associated with the Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidic movement. Muchnik resides in Crown Heights, Brooklyn; his art is noted for its joyful, story book renderings of Jewish and Hasidic themes in water colors and acrylics, and for original lithographs. [1] [2]
Michoel Muchnik was born in Philadelphia in 1952. Muchnik received his artistic training at the Rhode Island School of Design. He later studied Jewish and Talmudic studies at the Rabbinical College of America in Morristown, New Jersey. [1] [2]
Michoel Muchnik's art focuses on imaginative and joyful depictions of traditional and mystical Jewish and Hasidic themes. [3] Muchnik has exhibited his work and lectured on Hasidic art throughout the United States as well as abroad. In 1977, Muchnik was selected alongside four other Hasidic artists, including Hendel Lieberman, to be featured at a special Hasidic art exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum. Muchnik has written and illustrated a number of children's books and illustrated a collector's edition of Pirke Avot (Ethics of the Fathers), published by Behrman House in 1986. Chabad, also known as Lubavitch, Habad and Chabad-Lubavitch, is an Orthodox Jewish Hasidic dynasty. Chabad is one of the world's best-known Hasidic movements, particularly for its outreach activities. It is one of the largest Hasidic groups and Jewish religious organizations in the world. Unlike most ultra-Orthodox groups, which are self-segregating, Chabad operates mainly in the wider world and caters to secularized Jews.
Crown Heights is a neighborhood in the central portion of the New York City borough of Brooklyn. Crown Heights is bounded by Washington Avenue to the west, Atlantic Avenue to the north, Ralph Avenue to the east, and Empire Boulevard/East New York Avenue to the south. Sholom Dovber Schneersohn was the fifth Rebbe of the Chabad Lubavitch chasidic movement. He is known as "the Rebbe Rashab". His teachings represent the emergence of an emphasis on outreach that later Chabad Rebbes developed into a major theme.
Boston is a Hasidic dynasty, originally established in 1915 by Rabbi Pinchas David Horowitz, a scion of the Nikolsburg Hasidic dynasty. Following the custom of European Chassidic Courts, where the Rebbe was called after the name of his city, the Bostoner branch of Hasidic Judaism was named after Boston, Massachusetts. The most senior and well-known of the Bostoner Rebbes in contemporary times was Grand Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Horowitz, who died in December 2009.

Hayom Yom is anthology of Hasidic aphorisms and customs arranged according to the calendar for the Hebrew year of 5703 (1942–43). A farbrengen is a Hasidic gathering. This term is only used by Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidim, as other Hasidim have a tish or a botteh. It may consist of explanations of general Torah subjects, with an emphasis on Hasidic philosophy, relating of Hasidic stories, and lively Hasidic melodies, with refreshments being served. It is regarded as a time of great holiness. Farbrengens are public events open to non-Hasidim as well.
