Mick's Tape is an album from UK group Cassetteboy. [2]
The album contains some mashup work by Cassetteboy, but also samples other tracks by various artists. Tracks by other artists include Squarepusher's "The Exploding Psychology", "Good Morning! How are you? Shut up!" by Ivor Cutler and "I Hear Voices" by MF Doom. Nearly all tracks not by Cassetteboy have been altered in some way, with the exception of "The Exploding Psychology". Several of the titles of the tracks allude to their contents, such as "Sirdy Bong", which is a Drum n' Bass remix of the "Birdy Song", and "The Formby Goes Out The Window" which samples George Formby's rendition of "Banjo Boy".
BBC Music called the album a "generally entertaining and pretty risqué listening experience". [3] The Independent wrote: "Thanks, then, to Cassetteboy for restoring the mix-tape to its more entertaining, inventive origins in hip-hop patchworks like Paul's Boutique and 3 Feet High and Rising''. [4]
Tom Jenkinson, known professionally as Squarepusher, is an English electronic musician, record producer, bassist, multi-instrumentalist and DJ. His music spans several genres including drum and bass, IDM, acid techno, jazz fusion, and electroacoustic music. His recordings are often typified by a combination of complex drum programming, live instrumental playing, and digital signal processing. Operation: Doomsday is the debut studio album by rapper MF DOOM, released through Fondle 'Em Records on 19 October 1999 and reissued by Sub Verse Records in 2001 with a slightly altered track listing. It was his first solo release under the MF DOOM moniker after previously performing as Zev Love X in the group KMD. Ludo is a 1967 album by Ivor Cutler, credited to the 'Ivor Cutler Trio' comprising Cutler with bassist Gill Lyons and percussionist Trevor Tomkins. The album was produced by George Martin, famous for his work with the Beatles, in a collaboration that came about after Cutler had appeared in the Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour film earlier that year. The album's title and cover allude to the board game of the same name. The music takes inspiration from trad jazz and boogie-woogie and draws comparisons to The Goon Show. "Star Star" is a song recorded by the English rock band the Rolling Stones. It was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. The song was released as a single for the band's album Goats Head Soup (1973), with "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)" as its B-side. The song's title was changed to "Star Star" from "Starfucker" after Ahmet Ertegün of Atlantic Records insisted on the change.
The Work were an English post-punk rock group, founded in 1980 by multi-instrumentalist/composer Tim Hodgkinson and guitarist/composer Bill Gilonis, with bass guitarist Mick Hobbs and drummer Rick Wilson. Live in Japan is a 1982 live album by English post-punk rock group the Work. It is their second album and was recorded in Osaka, Japan on 29 June 1982. It was released on LP later in 1982 by Recommended Records in Japan, and follows on from their debut album, Slow Crimes, released earlier in 1982 by Woof Records in the United Kingdom. Live in Japan was reissued in 2006 on CD by Ad Hoc Records in the United States with one extra track: "I Hate America", taken from the band's first single in 1981.
