Michael Dowling (born 17 December 1946) is an Irish former international boxer and current boxing commentator and analyst. He hails from Castlecomer, County Kilkenny.
Dowling boxed internationally for Ireland fifty times including at the 1968 Mexico and 1972 Munich Olympic Games. He boxed in the bantamweight (54 kg) division. [1] In the 1972 Munich Olympic Games, Dowling was beaten by Cuba's ultimate gold medallist Orlando Martínez to the quarter-finals. [2] Dowling holds two European Bronze Medals (from 1969 and 1971) [3] and still holds the record for eight consecutive National Elite titles in the same weight division. He has nine national titles in total from the Irish Amateur Boxing Association.[ citation needed ]
Mick Dowling is now one of Ireland's best-known boxing coaches having served as a member of the National Coaching Committee for ten years. He is currently senior coach of the Mount Tallant Boxing Club and Institute of Technology, Tallaght's Boxing Squad. He has also trained the Leinster Rugby squad in the art of Boxing Conditioning.[ citation needed ]
Dowling is now a well-known boxing commentator and fight analyst. He works primarily with RTÉ Sport in their coverage of Irish amateur boxing including the IABA National Championships, European Amateur Boxing Championships, World Amateur Boxing Championships and the Olympic Games. [4]
Dowling owns and runs "Mick Dowling Sportsworld", a sports shop in Terenure, Dublin. [5]
His son Mark Dowling is also a professional sportsman - a cyclist. [6] [7] Mick's daughter Lisa runs a fitness centre in Dublin, where her father provides coaching. [8]

John McNally was an Irish boxer who won a silver medal at the 1952 Summer Olympics in the bantamweight division. In the final McNally lost a split decision to Pentti Hämäläinen of Finland.
Eamonn Magee is a retired Irish professional boxer who competed from 1995 to 2007, becoming the World Boxing Union Welterweight Champion in 2007. Katie Taylor is an Irish professional boxer and former footballer. Richard McTaggart, MBE is a Scottish retired amateur boxer. He competed in the 1956 and 1960 Olympics in the lightweight division and won a gold and a bronze medal, respectively. In 1956 he received the Val Barker Trophy for best boxing style at the Olympics. At the 1964 Olympics McTaggart moved to the light-welterweight category, but lost in the third bout to the eventual winner Jerzy Kulej. McTaggart won the British ABA title in 1956, 1958, 1960, 1963 and 1965, and retired with a record of 610 wins out of 634 bouts.

Kenneth "Kenny" Egan is an Irish politician and boxer from Clondalkin, Dublin best known for winning a silver medal in the final of the 81 kg, Light-Heavyweight boxing final at the 2008 Olympics. He won the European Gold Medal in the 2008 Athens Olympic Qualifiers and a European Bronze Medal in 2006 and 2010 at Light-heavyweight. Devendro Singh Laishram, also known as Devendro Singh or Devendro Laishram, is an Indian boxer from Imphal West district, Manipur who competes in the light-flyweight division. Devendro represented India at the 2012 Summer Olympics and lost out in the quarter-finals in a tough bout against the eventual bronze medalist Irish boxer Paddy Barnes. Devendro qualified for the Olympics after reaching the quarter-finals of the 2011 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Baku. In 2013 Devendro won the silver medal at the Asian Confederation Boxing Championship. In August 2014 he won the silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. He competed against Paddy Barnes, who was representing Northern Ireland and settled for a Silver medal.

As an amateur, he reached number one in the AIBA bantamweight world rankings, with achievements that include a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics and gold at the 2015 World Championships. He has been one of Ireland's most successful amateur fighters of all time. He turned professional in 2016 after misgivings with the amateur sport, and had his first bout in 2017.
