Mickey Kearins (born 18 April 1943) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played at senior level for the Sligo county team for 17 years from 1961 until 1978.

In 1971 he was the first Sligo man to win an All-Star. He is also the only Sligo player to win a Cú Chulainn Award-winning it three consecutive years in 1964–66. In 1975 he helped Sligo win the Connacht Senior Football Championship for the first time since 1928.

Kearins played with Connacht in the Railway Cup winning titles in 1967 and 1969. He played his club football with the St Patrick's Dromard club with whom he won seven Sligo Senior Football Championships.

Kearins was top scorer in National Football League history for many decades until May 2021,^[1] when David Tubridy took the record from him.^[2]

In 2003, Kearins was included in the book Gaelic Football's Top 20. He managed the Sligo under-21 county football team in the early to mid-2000s.

In May 2020, the Irish Independent named Kearins as one of the "dozens of brilliant players" who narrowly missed selection for its "Top 20 footballers in Ireland over the past 50 years".^[3]

His brother James also played for Sligo and, later, managed the senior and under-21 teams.^[4]

The Connacht GAA Football Under-20 Championship, known simply as the Connacht Under-20 Championship, is an annual inter-county Gaelic football competition organised by the Connacht Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county football competition for male players between the ages of 17 and 20 in the province of Connacht. The championship was contested as the Connacht Under-21 Championship between 1964 and 2016 before changing to an under-20 age category from 2018. It is sponsored by EirGrid.

Doonbeg is a village in west County Clare, Ireland on the Atlantic coast. The surrounding natural environment has supported its development as a tourist resort. The area was officially classified as part of the West Clare Gaeltacht, an Irish-speaking community, until 1956.

Barnes Murphy, is a former Gaelic footballer who represented the Sligo county team during the 1970s and 1980s. Aside from winning a GAA All Stars Award in 1974, he won a Connacht Senior Football Championship medal with Sligo in 1975 when he both captained and coached Sligo the same year. Murphy played football for Connacht many times in his career and his talent was duly recognized by the Connacht Railway Cup management in 1976 when he was selected as the first and only Sligo man to captain his province.

Charlie Harrison is an Irish sportsperson from County Sligo. He plays Gaelic football for his club St John's and at senior level for the Sligo county team. In 2010, he was given an All Star, a particularly unusual achievement for a Sligo player. Only three others had managed this before him [Mickey Kearins, Barnes Murphy and Eamon O'Hara].

Emlyn Mulligan is a Gaelic footballer from County Leitrim who plays for the Sligo based St Mary's club and formerly for the Leitrim county team. A top class free-taker, he scored 1–34 in the 2008 National Football League. The high point of his career came in captaining Leitrim to the FBD Insurance League in 2013 - though it a notable achievement in this case as it was only Leitrim's fourth ever trophy and their first since 1994. He is widely considered as one of the greatest ever players to grace the Connacht championship. He scored 3–8 in New York in 2013, described by experts as "some feat". He took a year out to go travelling ahead of Leitrim's 2015 campaign.

St Patrick's is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Dromard and Skreen in west County Sligo, Republic of Ireland.

Cillian O'Connor is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for Ballintubber and the Mayo county team. O'Connor is the leading all-time top scorer in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.
