Michael Allen Madden [1] (born May 13, 1979) is an American musician and former bassist for the pop rock band Maroon 5. [2]
Madden was born in Austin, Texas. He began playing in junior high school at the Brentwood School in Los Angeles, playing in garages along with friends Jesse Carmichael (guitar/vocals) and Adam Levine (lead vocals/guitar). The bands Pearl Jam and Nirvana were among their influences. In 1994, with the addition of Ryan Dusick (drums), the band Kara's Flowers was formed. [3]
After the break-up of Kara's Flowers, Madden attended classes at UCLA. After Madden attended college, the group reformed with guitarist James Valentine joining the line-up, and Jesse Carmichael mainly playing the keyboards, and pursued a new musical direction, changing their name to Maroon 5.
Until his departure from Maroon 5 on July 14, 2020, Madden was the only other member besides Adam Levine to have remained in both Kara's Flowers and Maroon 5 consistently. [4]
Madden is also a founding member of a multimedia project called Collapsing Scenery, along with multi-instrumentalist Don Devore. [5]
Madden was a dedicated vegan for ten years, and he supported the farmers [6] and Farm Sanctuary. [7]
In 2016, Madden was arrested on drug possession charges alongside James Gubelmann, Ivanka Trump's ex-boyfriend, outside a bar in Manhattan. [8] Madden accepted a day of community service in a plea deal. [9]
On June 27, 2020, he was arrested on domestic violence charges. He announced his leave of absence from Maroon 5 following his arrest. [10] The Los Angeles District Attorney ultimately declined prosecution; the case was dropped, and no charges were filed. [11]

Maroon 5 is an American pop rock band from Los Angeles, California. It consists of lead vocalist Adam Levine, rhythm guitarist and keyboardist Jesse Carmichael, lead guitarist James Valentine, drummer Matt Flynn, keyboardist PJ Morton and multi-instrumentalist and bassist Sam Farrar. Jesse Royal Carmichael is an American musician, best known as the keyboardist and rhythm guitarist for the pop rock band, Maroon 5. He is one of only two remaining original members of the group, along with frontman Adam Levine. He also has a solo project called 1863 and a side project titled Circuit Jerks.

He has also been the bassist for the rock band Phantom Planet since their formation in 1994.
Live – Friday the 13th is a live DVD and CD release by Maroon 5. It was recorded on May 13, 2005 in Santa Barbara, California at the Santa Barbara Bowl.
