Microbulbifer mangrovi is a polysaccharide-degrading bacterium isolated from an Indian mangrove, hence its name. It is rod-shaped, Gram-negative, non-motile, aerobic and non-endospore forming, its type strain designated DD-13(T). [1]
Saccharophagus degradans is a gram-negative marine bacterium known to degrade a number of complex polysaccharides as energy source. S. degradans have also been shown to ferment xylose to ethanol. In recent studies, Saccharophagus degradans from Chesapeake Bay was effectively used to produce cellulosic ethanol. Cellulosic ethanol production by means of bacterial action could be the key cheap production of cellulosic ethanol for global mass market production of bioethanol. It is currently produced by such means as gasification. S. degradans is the only species in its newly created genus.
Alcanivorax pacificus is a pyrene-degrading marine gammaprotobacterium. It is of the genus Alcanivorax, a group of marine bacteria known for degrading hydrocarbons. When originally proposed, the genus Alcanivorax comprised six distinguishable species. However, A. pacificus, a seventh strain, was isolated from deep sea sediments in the West Pacific Ocean by Shanghai Majorbio Bio-pharm Technology Co., Ltd. in 2011. A. pacificus’s ability to degrade hydrocarbons can be employed for cleaning up oil-contaminated oceans through bioremediation. The genomic differences present in this strain of Alcanivorax that distinguish it from the original consortium are important to understand to better utilize this bacteria for bioremediation.
Microbulbifer salipaludis is a moderate halophilic bacteria. It is Gram-negative, non-motile, non-spore-forming and rod-shaped. The type strain of the species is strain SM-1T.
Microbulbifer marinus is a Gram-negative, aerobic bacterium found in marine sediment. Its type strain is Y215T.
Microbulbifer yueqingensis is a Gram-negative, aerobic bacterium found in marine sediment. Its type strain is Y226T.
Novosphingobium pentaromativorans is a species of high-molecular-mass polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon-degrading bacterium. It is Gram-negative, yellow-pigmented and halophilic. With type strain US6-1T. Its genome has been sequenced.
