The Midland RC International was a men's and women's professional tennis tournament first founded in 1964 as the Midland Racquet Club National Invitational. [1] It was first played on outdoor hard courts at the Midland Racquet Club, Midland, Texas, United States. The event ran for five editions and was usually staged late September to mid October annually until 1972. [2]

History

The Midland RC International was a men's and women's professional tennis tournament founded in 1964 as the Midland Racquet Club National Invitational. [3] It was played at the Midland Racquet Club, Midland, Texas, United States. [2] The inaugural edition of the event was part of the National Tennis League and was branded as the NTL Midland Championships. [4] In 1969 the event became part of the WCT Circuit and was branded as the WCT Midland Pro Championships. In 1970 the tournament was rebranded as the Midland (Texas) Pro Invitational, and still part of the WCT Circuit. [5] In 1971 the event was dropped from the WCT tour and became part of the ILTF Independent Circuit for that year. [2] In 1972 the tournament was reinstated as a WCT event and branded as the Midland RC International. [6]

Kenneth Robert Rosewall is an Australian former world top-ranking professional tennis player. Rosewall won 147 singles titles, including a record 15 Pro Majors and 8 Grand Slam titles for a total 23 titles at pro and amateur majors. He also won 15 Pro Majors in doubles and 9 Grand Slam doubles titles. Rosewall achieved a Pro Slam in singles in 1963 by winning the three Pro Majors in one year and he completed the Career Grand Slam in doubles.

The ILTF Grand Prix tennis circuit was a professional tennis tour for male players that existed from 1970 to 1989. The Grand Prix and World Championship Tennis (WCT) were the two predecessors to the current tour for male players, the ATP Tour, with the Grand Prix being more prominent.

World Championship Tennis (WCT) was a tour for professional male tennis players established in 1968 and lasted until the emergence of the ATP Tour in 1990. A number of tennis tournaments around the world were affiliated with WCT and players were ranked in a special WCT ranking according to their results in those tournaments.

The Richmond WCT, also known by its sponsored names Fidelity Bankers Invitational and United Virginia Bank Tennis Classic, was a men's tennis tournament played in Richmond, Virginia in the United States founded in 1966 as the Richmond Invitational Indoor Championships. The inaugural edition in February 1966 was a two-day event with eight player and without prize money. The first six editions, from 1966 through 1971, were invitational tournaments and were held at the Richmond Arena. The 1970 edition was the first one to offer prize money, namely $12,500. The U.S. Professional Indoor Championships, also known as U.S. Pro Indoor, was a professional tennis tournament founded in 1962 as the Philadelphia Invitational Indoor Tennis Championships. The tournament was held in Philadelphia, United States from 1962 to 1998. It played on indoor carpet courts, and indoor hard courts. It was part of the ILTF World Circuit from 1962 to 1967 and again in 1970, the World Championship Tennis (WCT) circuit in 1968, 1969 and from 1971 to 1977 and the Grand Prix Tour from 1978 to 1989 before being held on the ATP Tour. It was held annually first at the Spectrum, and then at the CoreStates Center. It was originally named the Philadelphia Indoor Open Tournament prior to the open era.

This is a list of the main career statistics of Australian former tennis player Rod Laver whose playing career ran from 1956 until 1977. He played as an amateur from 1956 until the end of 1962 when he joined Jack Kramer's professional circuit. As a professional he was banned from playing the Grand Slam tournaments as well as other tournaments organized by the national associations of the International Lawn Tennis Federation (ILTF). In 1968, with the advent of the Open Era, the distinction between amateurs and professionals disappeared and Laver was again able to compete in most Grand Slam events until the end of his career in 1977. During his career he won eleven Grand Slam tournaments, eight Pro Slam tournaments and five Davis Cup titles.

The Carolinas International Tennis Tournament, also known by its sponsored name North Carolina National Bank Tennis Classic, was a combined men's and women's tennis tournament founded in 1965. Also known as the Carolinas Invitational it was played at the Julian J. Clark Tennis Stadium on the grounds of the Olde Providence Racquet Club in Charlotte, North Carolina from 1971 through 1977. The inaugural edition was part of the Grand Prix tennis circuit while the following editions were part of the World Championship Tennis (WCT) circuit. The Virginia Slims of Fort Lauderdale is a defunct WTA Tour affiliated women's tennis tournament founded in 1946 as a combined men's and women's event called the Austin Smith Championships that was part of the ILTF Circuit. The tournament played at the Fort Lauderdale Tennis Club from 1946 to 1974. It was held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the United States and played on outdoor clay courts.

The Miami Grand Prix is a defunct men's tennis tournament founded in 1948 then revived in 1968 that was played on the WCT circuit from 1968, 1971–1974 and the Grand Prix tennis circuit from 1977–1978. The event was played on outdoor asphalt hard courts in 1948, 1968, 1971–1974, then switching to outdoor clay courts in 1977, and becoming an indoor carpet courts event in 1978. The tournament was last held in Hollywood, Miami, Florida, United States.

The 1968 Men's National Tennis League (NTL) was the inaugural series of professional tennis tournaments founded by George McCall, among others: Rod Laver, Roy Emerson, Ken Rosewall, Andrés Gimeno, Pancho Gonzales and Fred Stolle.

The Blue Gray Championships was a men's and women's open international tennis tournament was founded in 1949. Also known as the Blue Gray Invitation the tournament was first played at the Montgomery Country Club, Montgomery, Alabama, United States. It was played annually until 1978 as an individual competition when it was discontinues. In 1984 it was revived as team only competition called the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic that is still active.

The Binghamton Pro Championships was a men's and women's professional tennis tournament first held in 1966. Also known as the Binghamton Masters or NTL Masters Championships it was first played on outdoor hard courts at the Highland Racquet & Riding Club, Binghamton, New York, United States. The event ran for tfree editions until 1968.

The South Texas Pro Championships or officially the South Texas Professional Championships was a men's and women's professional tennis tournament founded in 1968. It was first played on outdoor hard courts at the HEB Tennis Center, Corpus Christi, Texas, United States. The event ran for TWO editions and was usually staged in October, before moving to February annually until 1970.

The Orlando Professional Championships also known WCT Orlando Pro Championships was a men's professional tennis tournament founded in 1942. It was held in Orlando, Florida, United States. In 1968 it was part of the WCT Circuit. In 1969 it became part of National Tennis League then was discontinued.
