Colonial Heights is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 17,411. The Bureau of Economic Analysis combines the City of Colonial Heights with Dinwiddie County for statistical purposes.
The Battle of Harpers Ferry was fought September 12–15, 1862, as part of the Maryland Campaign of the American Civil War. As Gen. Robert E. Lee's Confederate army invaded Maryland, a portion of his army under Maj. Gen. Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson surrounded, bombarded, and captured the Union garrison at Harpers Ferry, Virginia, a major victory at relatively minor cost.
State Route 4 is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. Known as Buggs Island Road, the state highway runs 11.02 miles (17.73 km) from the North Carolina state line near Palmer Springs north to U.S. Route 58 near Midway. SR 4 connects US 58 with John H. Kerr Dam, which impounds the Roanoke River to form Kerr Lake. The state highway was assigned concurrent with the construction of the dam and reservoir in the early 1950s.
The Pittsburgh Senior Classic was a golf tournament on the Champions Tour from 1993 to 1998. It was played in the greater Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area; first in Midway, Pennsylvania at the Quicksilver Golf Club (1993-1997) and then in Sewickley Heights, Pennsylvania at the Sewickley Heights Golf Club.
Midway Mills is an unincorporated community in Nelson County, Virginia, United States. Midway, now called Midway Mills, was established on June 6, 1774, by Dr. William Cabell,, and was the first European settlement in Nelson County. It was named Midway because it was midway between Richmond and Lynchburg along the James River. The area, at that time part of "Old Albemarle County", was later divided into the counties of Albemarle, Amherst, Buckingham, Nelson, and Fluvanna between 1741 and 1809.
