Mihai Cimpoi (born 3 September 1942) is a Moldovan politician,a distinguished cultural scientist,Romanian academician, [1] critic and literary historian,eminescologist,literary editor and Bessarabian essayist. "Emeritus of the Republic of Moldova", [2] two decades elected president of the Union of Writers of Moldova,deputy in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova between 1999 and 2001, [3] Mihai Cimpoi is the author of some fundamental works such as:"An Open History of the Romanian literature in Bessarabia" (in several editions) and "Mihai Eminescu. Encyclopedic Dictionary" - a unique monumental work. Mihai Cimpoi is the author and developer of the long-term project "The World Congress of Eminescologists",launched in 2012 and became a tradition. Mihai Cimpoi was born on 3 September 1942 into the family of Ilie and Ana Cimpoi,peasants from the commune of Larga,Hotin County,Kingdom of Romania. [5] The future academician,after primary and secondary education,graduated from the Faculty of Philology from Chișinău (1965),after which he became the editor of the magazine "Nistru" (until 1972) and a consultant of the Union of Writers. In 1973,his signature and public activity are forbidden,because he "dared" to address the aesthetic critique of the Călinescian origin instead of the official,sociologistic.
He was a member of the Parliament of Moldova. He is a leader of the Democratic Forum of Romanians in Moldova.
He is employed as editor at the "Moldovan Book" (1974) and "Artistic Literature" (1977-1982),literary secretary at the National Theater (1982-1983) and Lyric Theater "Alexei Mateevici"(1986-1987). Since May 1987 he has been elected secretary of the Steering Committee of the Writers' Union of Moldova and president since September 1991 until 2010. He was deputy of the people of the USSR in Gorbachev's thaw (1989-1990) and then deputy in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova (1999-2001). In parallel,he is the head of the Department of Classical Literature of the Institute of History and Literary Theory of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova,he obtained his Ph.D. in Philology in 1998,with the thesis "Eminescu,poet of Being"(conductor,Eugen Simion) and teaches at the "Ion Creangă" Pedagogical University in Chişinău. In 1991 he became an honorary member of the Romanian Academy, [6] a member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (1992), [7] a member of the Writers' Union of Romania (since 1994 elected and member of the board of directors),member of PEN-club,member of the Târgoviştei Writers Society (2005),vice-president of the Cultural League for the Unity of Romanians Abroad,an honorary citizen of Craiova (in 2005,alongside Grigore Vieru,Vasile Tărâţeanu). He is the director of the magazine "Life of Basarabia" and in the collections of publications "Critical copybooks","Romanian Life",founding president of the "Mihai Eminescu" International Academic Center in Chișinău.
Grigore Vieru was a Moldovan poet,writer and unionist advocate,known for his poems and books for children. His poetry is characterized by vivid natural scenery,patriotism,as well as a venerated image of the sacred mother. Vieru wrote in the Romanian language. In 1993 he was elected a correspondent member of the Romanian Academy.
Pantelimon "Pan" Halippa was a Bessarabian and later Romanian journalist and politician. One of the most important promoters of Romanian nationalism in Bessarabia and of this province's union with Romania,he was president of Sfatul Țării,which voted union in 1918. He then occupied ministerial posts in several governments,following which he underwent political persecution at the hands of the Communist régime and was later incarcerated in Sighet prison.

Andrei Eșanu is a historian,writer and researcher from the Republic of Moldova. He is a member of the Commission for the Study of the Communist Dictatorship in Moldova. He is part of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova,and was elected an honorary member of the Romanian Academy in 2011.
Ștefan Ciobanu was a Romanian historian and academician,author of some important works about ancient Romanian literature,Romanian culture in Basarabia under Russian occupation,Bessarabian demography,fervent advocate of the introduction of the Romanian language in the schools of Bessarabia,vice-president of the Romanian Academy between 1944 and 1948. He served as Minister of Education (1917–1918) of the short-lived Moldavian Democratic Republic.

Samuil Rivinovici Lehtțir,also rendered as Lehțir,Lehtțâr,Lekhttsir,Lekhtser,and Lehitser,was Moldovan poet,critic,and literary theorist. Of Bessarabian Jewish origin,he rejected Romanian nationalism as a youth,and fled to the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. Returning to complete his studies at Cernăuți University in the Kingdom of Romania,but was regarded as a political suspect,and again escaped to the Moldavian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (MASSR) in 1926—soon after that polity had been created within the Soviet Union. He was employed as a book publisher and journalist,emerging as an authority on literary matters. Lehtțir adopted Proletkult ideas about the need to destroy and rebuild cultural traditions;on such grounds,he and his colleague Iosif Vainberg came to deny that there was a Bessarabian literature that was worth preserving,and that Moldavian literary tradition could be built up from proletarian identity and Soviet patriotism. This sparked a special controversy within a larger debate about Romanian and Moldavian identity.
Dumitru Caracostea was a Romanian folklorist,literary historian and critic.
Zoe Dumitrescu-Bușulenga was a Romanian comparatist and essayist. A native of the national capital Bucharest,she was educated at its main university,going on to become a professor there. Together with a focus on interdisciplinary studies,she was noted for devoting several studies to Mihai Eminescu. Meanwhile,Dumitrescu was a dignitary of the Romanian Communist Party. Following the Romanian Revolution,after several years spent in Rome,she retired to a monastery.
Leo Butnaru is a writer from Moldova and Romania. He holds a degree in journalism and philology from the University of Moldova (1972). He has worked in publishing,as editor and editor-in-chief,at magazines such as,Moldovan Youth,Literature and Art,and Moldova. His first poetry publication was a chapbook,Wing in Light (1976). In 1977,he became a member of the Writers Union of the Soviet Union. In the same year,he is removed from the staff of Moldoval Youth. He is a member of the Romanian Writers Union (1993). He is a founding member of the Moldovan PEN Center. From 1997 to 2005,he was president of the Chisinau branch of the Romanian Writers Union. He is on the board of the Romanian Writers Union.
