Mika Tervala is a Finnish mountain bike orienteering competitor, World Champion and European Champion. He won individual gold medals at the 2002, 2006 and 2007 World Championships, and a gold medal in the relay in 2004, 2005 and 2006. [1] Mika coaches the Finnish national mountain bike orienteering teams since spring 2008. [2]
Tervala started his sports career with biathlon. He competed in biathlon until 1993, when he switched to ski orienteering. [3]
After his ski orienteering period Tervala experienced several successful years in mountain bike orienteering. He competed at the very first World Championships, in Fontainebleau in 2002, where he won a gold medal in the sprint, placed ninth in the long distance, and earned a bronze medal in the relay with the Finnish team. [4] At the 2004 World Championships in Ballarat he placed sixth in the middle distance, won a silver medal in the long distance, and a gold medal in the relay together with Timo Sarkkinen and Jussi Mäkilä. [5] He won a bronze medal in the middle distance at the 2005 World Championships in Banská Bystrica, and the Finnish team won the gold medal in the relay with the same team as in 2004 (Tervala, Timo Sarkkinen, Jussi Mäkilä). In 2006 the World Championships were held in Joensuu in Finland. Tervala won a silver medal in the middle distance, and gold medals in the long distance and in the relay (with Jussi Mäkilä and Tuomo Tompuri). [7] At the European Championships in Warsaw in August–September 2006, Tervala won gold medals in the long distance and in the relay, and a silver medal in the middle distance. [8] At the European Championships in Castelfiorentino 2007 Tervala won gold medals in both the long distance and the middle distance. [9] The 2007 World Championships were held in Nove Mesto in August. Tervala placed fifth in the sprint distance and won a gold medal in the middle distance, while the Finnish relay team placed fifth. [10] He also participated at the 2008 World Championships in Ostróda, where he placed sixth in the relay with the Finnish team. [11]
Olav Lundanes is a Norwegian orienteering competitor, hailing from Ålesund. He has won gold medal at the World Orienteering Championships ten times and the European Orienteering Championships four times. He competes for Halden SK.
Magne Dæhli is a Norwegian orienteering competitor, ski-orienteer, and cross-country skier. His achievements include five medals in the relay at the World Orienteering Championships, of which three are gold medals. His best individual performances include a silver medal in the long distance from the European Orienteering Championships, and a bronze medal in the middle distance from the 2019 World Orienteering Championships.
Ruslan Gritsan is a Russian competitor and multiple world champion in both ski-orienteering and mountain bike orienteering.
Mervi Väisänen is a Finnish ski-orienteering and mountain bike orienteering competitor.
Päivi Tommola is a Finnish mountain bike orienteering competitor, World Champion and European Champion. She won individual gold medals at the 2002 and 2005 World Championships, and gold medals in the relay in 2002, 2004 and 2007.
Michaela Gigon is an Austrian mountain bike orienteer and several times world champion. She has competed at all World MTB Orienteering Championships from 2002 to 2010, won individual gold medals in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2010, and in relay in 2009.
Christine Schaffner is a Swiss mountain bike orienteer and world champion. She has participated in all seven World MTB Orienteering Championships from 2004 to 2010, and won gold medals in the long distance four times, in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
Jussi Mäkilä is a Finnish mountain bike orienteering competitor and World Champion. He won an individual gold medal at the 2002 World MTB Orienteering Championships, and gold medals in the relay in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
Tuomo Tompuri is a Finnish mountain bike orienteering competitor and World Champion. He won an individual gold medal at the 2006 World MTB Orienteering Championships, and a gold medal in the relay.
Adrian Jackson is an Australian mountain bike orienteering competitor and World Champion. He has won individual gold medals at the 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2010 World MTB Orienteering Championships.
Torbjørn Gasbjerg is a Danish mountain bike orienteering competitor and World Champion. He won an individual gold medal at the 2007 World MTB Orienteering Championships, a gold medal in the relay in 2008, and a gold medal in the middle distance in 2009.
Søren Strunge is a Danish mountain bike orienteering competitor and World Champion. He won a silver medal in the middle distance at the 2008 World MTB Orienteering Championships, as well as a gold medal in the relay together with Lasse Brun Pedersen and Torbjørn Gasbjerg.
Ksenia Chernykh is a Russian mountain bike orienteer and World Champion. She won individual gold medals at the 2007 and 2008 World MTB Orienteering Championships, and a relay gold medal in 2006.
Ida Bobach is a Danish orienteering competitor who was Junior World Champion in 2009, and became triple Junior World Champion from 2010, when she won the sprint, long distance and the relay. She represents the club OK Pan Århus, and since 2007, has received training from Danish national coach Lars Lindstrøm. In 2015 she won gold medals at the World Championships in the long and Relay.
Marika Hara is a Finnish mountain bike orienteering competitor and world champion.
Ingrid Stengård is a Finnish mountain bike orienteering competitor. She won two individual bronze medals at the 2006 World MTB Orienteering Championships, and won gold medals with the Finnish relay team in 2007 and 2008.
Jaroslav Rygl is a Czech mountain bike orienteer and ski orienteering competitor. He won a silver medal in the middle distance at the 2005 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Banska Bystrica, and a bronze medal in the long distance at the 2007 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Nove Mesto na Morave. With the Czech relay team he won medals at the 2007 and 2008 World MTB Orienteering Championships.
Jérémie Gillmann is a French mountain bike orienteer. At the 2002 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Fontainebleau he won a silver medal in the long distance, and a bronze medal in the sprint. At the 2007 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Nove Mesto na Morave, he won silver medals in the sprint and the middle distance, and a gold medal with the French relay team. Gillmann has won one silver and two bronze medals at the European Championships.
Gerit Pfuhl is a German mountain bike orienteer. At the 2005 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Banska Bystrica she won a gold medal in the relay, together with Anke Dannowski and Antje Bornhak.
Maija Lång is a Finnish mountain bike orienteering competitor.
