Mike McCullough (born March 17, 1980) is a former Canadian football linebacker who played ten seasons for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). McCullough was drafted by the Roughriders in the third round of the 2003 CFL Draft, after playing his college football at St. Francis Xavier University.

University football

McCullough played four seasons for the St. Francis Xavier University X-Men in the Atlantic University Sport Conference. [1] In his senior season, McCullough was named to the conference's defensive all-star team as well as being named an academic all-star. [1]

Professional football

After his university career, McCullough was drafted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 2003 CFL Draft. [1] He has been a key contributor on special teams, leading the Roughriders in special teams tackles during his rookie season. [1] While with the Roughriders, McCullough has been the recipient of numerous awards for community service, including the club's Mosaic Community Service Award in 2008 and 2009. [1] McCullough was the team's nominee for the Tom Pate Memorial Award in 2009 [2] and 2010, [3] presented by the CFL Player's Association for community service. After the 2010 CFL season, McCullough was awarded the Jake Gaudaur Veterans' Trophy, for being judged as the CFL Player who "best demonstrates the attributes of Canada's veterans in times of war, peace and military conflict." [3]

McCullough would have been a free agent in February 2011 after the 2010 season, but signed a new contract with the team on December 22, 2010. [4]

McCullough eventually went on to win the 101st Grey Cup with Saskatchewan in 2013.

On May 30, 2014, after ten seasons playing in the CFL, McCullough announced retirement. [5]

Personal life

McCullough is married, and lives in Regina year-round with his wife Laura and family. [1] He devotes a considerable amount of time to charities, with much of time directed to Jesse's Journey, a foundation that funds research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). [6] His son Cole, who suffered from DMD and epilepsy, died in February 2009 after suffering a seizure in his sleep. [6] McCullough has also devoted time to the Chris Knox Foundation in Regina, after befriending Knox, a young man battling cancer, in the leadup to the Roughriders win in the 2007 Grey Cup. McCullough was featured on pennants sold by the charity during the 2010 season as a fundraiser. [7]

Clermont captured a Grey Cup championship with the Lions in 2006. He joined his hometown Roughriders at the start of the 2009 season after being released by the Lions and is now a member of the Regina Sports Hall of Fame as well as the University of Regina Hall of Fame and BC Lions Wall of Fame.

Chris Szarka

Chris "Canuck Truck" Szarka is a former Canadian Football League fullback. He spent his entire professional football career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He also served as a member of the Regina City Council.

Darian Durant American football quarterback

Darian Bernard Durant is a former professional Canadian football quarterback. He played college football at the University of North Carolina. By the end of his college career, he held school records for completion percentage, touchdowns, passing yards, total offense and completions. Durant was signed as a free agent by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2006, and became the club's full-time starting quarterback in 2009. He was named a CFL West Division All-Star in 2009 and 2013. Durant was the starting quarterback when the Saskatchewan Roughriders won the 101st Grey Cup in 2013 on their home field. Durant also played for the Montreal Alouettes in 2017. His brother Justin played in the National Football League as a linebacker.

The Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award is annually awarded to the best defensive player in the Canadian football League. The winner of the award is selected by members of the Football Reporters of Canada along with the head coaches in the CFL. The two nominees for the award are the James P. McCaffrey Trophy winner from the East Division, and the Norm Fieldgate Trophy winner from the West Division. Between the years of 1955 to 1973, both defensive players and offensive lineman had to compete for the CFL's Most Outstanding Lineman Award. By the 1974 season, the league decided to make two separate awards for both defensive players and offensive lineman.

2008 Saskatchewan Roughriders season

The 2008 Saskatchewan Roughriders finished in 2nd place in the West Division with a 12–6 record for the second consecutive year. It was their 51st season in the Canadian Football League. The Roughriders attempted to repeat as Grey Cup champions, but, due to an abundance of injuries, lost to the BC Lions in the West Semi-Final game.

Brendon LaBatte is a Canadian football guard with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. He was drafted sixth overall by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 2008 CFL Draft. He played CIS Football with the Regina Rams.

Marcus Adams (Canadian football) Canadian football defensive tackle

Marcus "Chunky" Adams is a Canadian football defensive tackle who played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL) for eight seasons. He also was on the rosters of the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL, the Colorado Crush and Spokane Shock of the Arena Football League, and the Peoria Rough Riders of af2 throughout his professional career. He played college football at Eastern Kentucky.

Kitwana Jones

Kitwana Shaloyd Jones is a former Canadian football defensive end. He was signed by the Saskatchewan Roughriders as an undrafted free agent in 2005. Jones has also played professionally for the Edmonton Eskimos and Montreal Alouettes. He played college football at the University of North Carolina and Hampton University.

Paul Woldu is a former professional Canadian football cornerback. He was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in the fifth round of the 2008 CFL Draft where he spent four years with the team. He played CIS football for the Saskatchewan Huskies football team.

The 2010 CFL season is the 57th season of modern-day Canadian football. Officially, it is the 53rd Canadian Football League season. Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton hosted the 98th Grey Cup on November 28 when the Montreal Alouettes became the first team to repeat as Grey Cup Champions in 13 years, defeating the Saskatchewan Roughriders, 21–18. The league announced on its Twitter page on January 29, 2010 that the season would start on July 1, 2010. As of 2021 this is the most recent CFL regular season to start in July.
