Tad Kornegay (born July 13, 1982) is a former professional Canadian football defensive back. He most recently played for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. He has also been a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and BC Lions.

University career

Kornegay played four years (2001–2004) of college football at Fordham University. [1] In his last season at Fordham, Kornegay was awarded the Vincent T. Lombardi Award as the school's male athlete of the year. [2] He was a first team All Patriot League selection twice, [1] and was a consensus First Team All-American in 2004. [2] He received many other All-American honors after his senior season, including First Team Associated Press, American Football Coaches Association, Walter Camp Division I-AA and Sports Network I-AA. [2] Kornegay was a finalist for the 2004 Buck Buchanan Award, which is given to the Division I-AA Defensive Player of the Year. He finished 14th in the final voting. [2]

Professional career

After his university career was complete, Kornegay signed a free agent contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL). [1] During his rookie season with Hamilton (2005), Kornegay dressed for all 18 regular season games and finished the season with 33 tackles, including special teams. [1] In 2006, he played in 14 games and recorded 48 tackles and had his first career CFL interception. [1]

Prior to the 2007 season, Kornegay was traded to the Saskatchewan Roughriders in exchange for Thyron Anderson and Jason French and played a key role in the Roughriders' 2007 Grey Cup Championship. [1]

He was released by the Riders on July 20, 2011, and was later signed to the practice roster of the BC Lions on July 30, 2011. [3] He would go on to start at defensive halfback for the final 13 regular season games of the season in addition to the West Final and Grey Cup. [4] He won his second championship after the Lions won the 99th Grey Cup, but he was released during the off-season on January 16, 2012. [5] On July 20, 2012, the Calgary Stampeders signed Kornegay. [6] Calgary released Kornegay in January 2013.

Kornegay signed a one-day contract with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, as announced on August 26, 2014, by the Roughriders, so he could officially retire from the CFL while playing for the team he has been with for the majority of his CFL career. [7]

The 19-week regular schedule, issued February 3, 2009, began on July 1, which was only the second time in league history that a CFL season started on Canada Day, with the first occurring in 1998. The playoffs started on November 15 and two weeks of pre-season games began June 17.

He played college football at the University of Akron and attended Westlake High School in Waldorf, Maryland. He has also been a member of seven CFL teams, three arena football teams and two NFL teams.

Wayne Drinkwalter is a former Canadian football defensive lineman who played nine seasons in the Canadian Football League with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Calgary Stampeders and BC Lions. He was drafted by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the third round of the 1989 CFL Draft. He played amateur football for the Thunder Bay Giants of the Canadian Junior Football League. Drinkwalter was also a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The 2017 CFL season was the 64th season of modern-day Canadian football. Officially, it was the 60th season of the Canadian Football League. The CFL announced that this season will move to a 21-week regular season to increase player rest time and reduce short turnaround-times for games. Given the change, the regular season began on June 14, 2018, one week earlier than usual, and concluded on November 3, 2018.

The 2019 CFL season was the 66th season of modern-day Canadian football. Officially, it was the 62nd Canadian Football League season. The regular season began on June 13 and concluded with the playing of the 107th Grey Cup in Calgary on November 24 —where the Winnipeg Blue Bombers defeated the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 33–12 to win their first Grey Cup since 1990.
