Mike Mercer (born April 28, 1947) is a Canadian former athlete who competed in shot put.

Mercer attended Oakville Trafalgar High School. [1]

As a specialist in shot put, Mercer won Canada's national championship in 1971 and claimed a bronze medal at the 1971 Pan American Games in Cali, behind Americans Al Feuerbach and Karl Salb. He also had a fourth-place finish at the 1978 Commonwealth Games and was third at the 1981 Pacific Conference Games. [2]

Mercer became a powerlifter in the 1980s after growing frustrated with athletics and set multiple Canadian records. [3]

He was awarded his Olympic bronze medal in 2015, seven years after the event, following the doping disqualification of competitor Andrei Mikhnevich.

The men's shot put was an event at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. There were 26 participating athletes from 18 nations. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event took place on 31 July 1992. The event was won by Mike Stulce of the United States, the nation's first victory in the men's shot put since 1968. His countryman Jim Doehring took silver. Vyacheslav Lykho of the Unified Team earned bronze, the first medal for a Soviet or former Soviet athlete in the event since 1980.

Sultana Frizell is a Canadian track and field athlete competing in the hammer throw. Frizell currently trains under the guidance of Derek Evely in Kamloops, British Columbia. She competed at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Frizell is the former Commonwealth Games champion in the hammer throw and Commonwealth Games record holder for the event as well.

The Indiana State Sycamores are the NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletic teams of Indiana State University. Since the 1977–78 academic year, Indiana State has been a member of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC). The Indiana State football team has competed in Division I FCS since the 1982 season, and has been a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) since it was spun off from the Gateway Collegiate Athletic Conference (Gateway) when the latter league merged into the MVC in 1992. As well, she is the 2023 Pan American, 2022 Commonwealth, and 2019 Summer Universiade champion.
