Mike Waywell (born 25 September 1988 in Maghull, Liverpool, England), formerly of Sale Sharks [2] is an English rugby union player who has represented England Counties XV and Lancashire. He currently plays inside centre but has previously played professionally at Fly-half. He has had most club level success at Fylde but his current club is Sedgley Park. [3]

Rugby union career

A product of the Sale Sharks academy, Mike began his career by playing academy rugby for Sale as well as lower league club rugby for Preston Grasshoppers and Altrincham Kersal before being signed by Fylde part way through the 2007–08 season. [4] [5] [1] While playing for Fylde, Mike was part of a squad that won three consecutive Lancashire Cup titles as well as gaining promotion to National League 1 by becoming National League 2 North champions in 2010-11 playing alongside former England legend Jason Robinson. [6] While at Fylde Mike proved to be a highly versatile and valuable player scoring both tries and being a reliable points kicker with 362 points scored in his 5+1⁄2 seasons spent with the club. [7] It was his performances for Fylde which led to Mike being called up by the Lancashire county team which he helped to win the prestigious Bill Beaumont in 2010 - a feat which also saw him be awarded the Lancashire Young Player of the Year. [8] [9] Further good performances for Fylde meant that Mike was also selected for the England Counties XV in 2012, playing an Irish Clubs XV in Preston. [10]

in 2012 Mike left Fylde to move to Hong Kong where he spent a season at Kowloon in the Hong Kong Premiership - a spell blighted by restricted game time due to Visa issues and the tragic death of his friend and fellow player, David Tait. [11] [12] [13] After his brief experience abroad Mike returned to Fylde before switching to Sedgley Park a division below in National League 2 North for the 2013–14 season. Mike made this move as he had just opened a gym in the summer and was unable to juggle his business with the increased travel demands of Fylde in National League 1. [14]

Fylde Rugby Union Club is a rugby union club based in Lytham St Annes, on the Fylde coast in Lancashire, England. The home venue is the Woodlands Memorial Ground on Blackpool Road in Ansdell and the first team play in English rugby's National League 2 North, the fourth tier of the English rugby union system, following their relegation from National League 1 at the end of the 2017–18 season. There are another two senior teams, the Hawks and the Vandals who play in the English North West Leagues; respectively in the NW Premiership and NW3 North. There is also a Colts team. In previous seasons the Colts have played in the Lancashire & Cheshire regional leagues.

Nick has also had success with Lancashire in the Bill Beaumont Cup - winning the competition 3 times. As well as playing international sevens, he was selected by the England Counties XV.

The 2011–12 National League 1 is the third season of the third division of the English domestic rugby union competitions since the professionalised format of the second division was introduced. Phil Chesters is an English rugby union player who is currently playing for Chinnor in National League 1 having signed for the club for the 2017-18 season. Prior to that he had made his name at Ealing Trailfinders where he had also been part of the medical staff. His best position is winger and over his career he has proved to be a tremendous try scorer who has set multiple records in lower division English rugby with Ealing, notably all-time records of 42 tries in a season in tier 3 and an amazing 70 tries in a season in tier 4 – a record that is unlikely to ever be beaten. The 2014 Bill Beaumont Cup, also known as Bill Beaumont Cup Division One, was the 114th version of the annual, English rugby union, County Championship organized by the RFU for the top tier English counties. Each county drew its players from rugby union clubs from the third tier and below of the English rugby union league system. The counties were divided into two regional pools with the winners of each pool meeting in the final held at Twickenham Stadium. New counties to the competition were the two finalists from the 2013 County Championship Plate final – Northumberland (winners) and North Midlands (runners-up) who replaced Durham and Kent. Lancashire were the defending champions.

Chris Johnson is an English rugby union footballer, currently playing at Fly-half or Centre for Sale in National League 1. An outstanding player who can kick points, drop goals, and score tries, he is one of the most prolific scorers of all time in both National League 2 North and National League 1, with over 3,000 points spread across the two divisions from his time with Huddersfield, Fylde and Sale. Johnson has also had a very successful representative career, winning the Bill Beaumont Cup five times with Lancashire, and captaining the England Counties XV.

Matthew Shepherd is an English and Cornish rugby union player who currently plays at scrum-half or full back for Redruth in National League 2 South, having previously played for Plymouth Albion in National League 1. An extremely reliable points scorer with a knack for scoring important tries, he was instrumental in Cornwall's County Championship victories in 2015 and 2016 and has also been capped by England Counties XV. As well as playing union, Shepherd has played summer rugby league for the Cornish Rebels.

Jack Lavin is an English rugby union player who is currently at Esher in National League 1 having signed from Caldy for the 2017–18 season. He plays at Fly-half or Inside Centre and is an excellent points kicker who can also score tries. As well as playing club rugby he has represented Cheshire in the county championships, finishing as runners up in 2016, as well as being capped by England Counties XV.

Oliver "Ollie" Brennand is an English rugby union footballer, who last played as a winger for Fylde in National League 1. He is Fylde's record try scorer with over 200 tries, and is also one of the most prolific try scorers ever in both National League 1 and National League 2 North. As well as playing club rugby he has also been capped by England Counties XV and Lancashire – with whom he has won the Bill Beaumont Cup four times.

Carlisle Rugby Club is an English rugby union club based in Carlisle, Cumbria. The first XV team currently plays in Counties 1 Cumbria and in 2023–24 will celebrate their 150th anniversary season. As well as a 1st XV, the club also operates men's 2nd XV (Crusaders), an occasional 3rd XV (Hornets) side, a Colts (under-18), a women's side (Cougars), and a number of junior sides for boys and girls aged 6 to 16.
