Milton B. "Big Money" Carthens (December 22, 1960 - December 17, 2021) was an American football player.
Carthen was born in 1960 and graduated from Bloomfield Hills Lahser High School in 1980. [1]
He enrolled at the University of Michigan and played for Michigan Wolverines football team under Bo Schembechler. He redshirted as a freshman and was used principally as a blocker on special teams over the next two years. [2] In October 1983, playing at tight end, he caught two passes for 49 yards, including a 23-yard touchdown pass from Steve Smith Smith in a victory over Michigan State. [3]
He was drafted by the Michigan Panthers in the USFL's 1984 territorial draft. [4] He left school early to join the Panthers in 1984, accepting a $6,000 bonus. However, he was cut by the Panthers before the season began. [2] He signed in 1987 with the Indianapolis Colts in 1987 and appeared in one game for the team. [1] He signed with the Detroit Lions in May 1988, [5] but was waived in late August 1988. [6]
As of 2010, Carthens was employed as a social worker in Detroit. [7] He died in 2021 at age 60. [8]
The United States Football League (USFL) was a professional American football league that played for three seasons, 1983 through 1985. The league played a spring/summer schedule in each of its active seasons. The 1986 season was scheduled to be played in the autumn/winter, directly competing against the long-established National Football League (NFL). However, the USFL ceased operations before that season was scheduled to begin.

Bobby Joseph Hebert Jr. is an American sportscaster and former professional football quarterback. He played in the United States Football League (USFL) and National Football League (NFL) from 1983 to 1996 for the Michigan Panthers, Oakland Invaders, New Orleans Saints, and Atlanta Falcons. Nicknamed "the Cajun Cannon", Hebert led the Panthers to the USFL championship in the league's inaugural season. Later he helped bring the Saints their first winning season and playoff appearance in franchise history. Hebert was inducted to the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2000. He currently hosts an afternoon radio show on WWL AM 870 and WWL-FM 105.3 in New Orleans.
Anthony “AC” Carter is an American former professional football player who was a wide receiver for 13 years in the United States Football League (USFL) and National Football League (NFL). He made three-consecutive Pro Bowls for the Minnesota Vikings and was honored by Minnesota as one of the 50 Greatest Vikings of all time. Carter played college football for the Michigan Wolverines, finishing his career as a three-time All-American, and a two-time unanimous All-American selection. He is currently third all-time in receiving yards, and second all-time in receiving touchdowns for the University of Michigan.
Ricky Wayne Sanders is an American former professional football player who was a wide receiver for 12 seasons from 1983 to 1994, two with the United States Football League (USFL)'s Houston Gamblers and 10 in the National Football League (NFL). He played running back, safety, and place kicker as a three-year letterman for Belton High School in Belton, Texas and broke five records.

Albert Timothy Bentley is an American former professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL) and the United States Football League (USFL). After the USFL folded, he played for the NFL's Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers from 1985 to 1992. Bentley played college football for the Miami Hurricanes.
James Arthur Smith is an American former professional football player who was wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Michigan Wolverines from 1974 to 1976. He played in the NFL for six seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1977 to 1982 before starring on the Birmingham Stallions of the rival United States Football League (USFL). After the USFL's demise, Smith played a final season for the Los Angeles Raiders in 1985.

He played college football as a tailback for the University of Michigan from 1979 to 1982 and was selected as a first-team running back on the 1982 All-Big Ten Conference football team. He also played professional football as a backup running back and kick returner for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL) in 1983 and 1984.
Richard Gene Strenger is an American former professional football player who was an offensive tackle for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL) from 1983 to 1987. He was an All-Big Ten selection playing college football for the Michigan Wolverines (1980–1982). After his football career, he became a lawyer in Lake Orion, Michigan.
The 1983 Michigan Wolverines football team was an American football team that represented the University of Michigan in the 1983 Big Ten Conference football season. In their 15th season under head coach Bo Schembechler, the Wolverines compiled a 9–3 record, lost to Auburn in the 1984 Sugar Bowl, and outscored all opponents by a total of 355 to 160.

He became one of the leading tacklers in Michigan history, played in the 1981 Rose Bowl and was the only unanimous selection as a first-team player on the 1980 Associated Press All-Big Ten football team. He later played professional football in the USFL from 1983 to 1984 for the Michigan Panthers and Chicago Blitz.
Shea Christopher Patterson is an American football quarterback for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football for the Ole Miss Rebels (2016–2017) and the Michigan Wolverines (2018–2019). He was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2020.
