Mimosa Helena Willamo (born 1994) is a Finnish actress. In 2015, she was awarded a Jussi Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Headfirst.

Early life

Willamo was born in 1994 [1] into a bilingual, Finnish- and Swedish-speaking family, and she was raised in Espoo. [2] [3]

Career

Willamo has performed roles in both Finnish and Swedish languages. [4] [5]

She is known for her roles in the films Headfirst  [ fi ] (2014), Lake Bodom (2016), Born in Heinola  [ fi ] (2016), Somebody Should Do Something  [ fi ] (2019), and Sisu (2022), among others.[ citation needed ]

From 2018 to 2021, Willamo starred in the series Deadwind , playing the role of Henna, the main protagonist's teenage stepdaughter who is involved with drugs. [6] [7] [8]

Willamo starred with Leonard Terfelt as detectives Ewert Grens and Mariana Hermansson in two Nordic noir TV series based on crime novels by Anders Roslund and Borge Hellström, Box 21 (2020) and Cell 8 (2022). Both were directed by Johan Brisinger. [9]

Awards

Willamo was awarded Jussi Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Headfirst, and she won the Best Actress award in 2016 for her role in Lake Bodom at the Screamfest Horror Film Festival in Los Angeles. [10] [11] For her role in Lake Bodom, Willamo was also nominated for a Jussi Award for Best Actress. [12] [13]

The Jussi Award for Best Actress was an award presented annually at the Jussi Awards, the premier film industry event in Finland, between 1944 and 2022. In the spring of 2022, Filmiaura's board introduced the gender-neutral Jussi Award for Best Leading Performance, which started from the 76th Jussi Awards in 2023. The 1st Jussi Awards ceremony was held in 1944, with Ansa Ikonen winning the first Jussi Award for Best Actress for her performance in Vaivaisukon morsian, and Seidi Haarla was the last winner in Compartment No. 6 at the 75th Jussi Awards in 2022.
