The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology is a governmental ministry of Kenya, that is in charge of national policies and programs that enable Kenyans gain access to high-quality, low-cost schooling, post-secondary education, higher education, and academic research. [1] The Kenyan Ministry of Education is mandated by the Kenyan Constitution, Chapter Four, Articles 43, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, and 59, which include provisions on children's right to free and compulsory basic education, including quality services, as well as access to education institutions and facilities for persons with disabilities who are integrated into society, to the extent compatible with the person's interests. Its head office is in Jogoo House B', Harambee Avenue, Nairobi, Kenya. [1]

The head of the Ministry has been referred to as a Minister in the past, however in 2017 this title changed to Cabinet Secretary, this in line with the 2010 Constitution of Kenya which allows the government to have 22 ministries.

As of 2019 the director general is Elyas Abdi Jillaow. [3]

Education in Kenya refers to the education system in Kenya. It is considered a basic right that should be offered to every individual. Education in Kenya predates to as early as the 18th century among the Swahili people. The earliest school was established by missionaries in Rabai. During colonial rule, a limited number of Kenyans were able to access higher education opportunities abroad.

The Cabinet of the Republic of Kenya is made up of the elected President and Deputy President, together with the appointed Attorney General, and Cabinet Secretaries. Cabinet Secretaries are nominated by the President and approved by Parliament, following vetting procedure. Once approved, they can be reshuffled at the President's discretion.

Education was divided by gender whereby women and men had a different education relevant to their responsibilities in day-to-day life. Roselinda Soipan Tuya is a Kenyan politician who has served as Minister of Defence since 12 August 2024. She previously served as Cabinet secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry. She was the first Maasai woman to be in the Cabinet of Kenya. She was dismissed on 11th July 2024, before being nominated for the position once again on 18th July 2024. However, she was later reassigned to the Defence docket awaiting confirmation by the National Assembly.
