The Minter Field Air Museum is an aviation museum located at the Shafter Airport in Shafter, California focused on the history of Minter Field Army Airfield.

History

The museum acquired a B-25 in 1977. [1] It opened five years later. [2]

The museum attempted to save the Blue Moon auditorium in 2007. [3] In December of that year, it broke ground on a new hangar. [4]

The museum building received a new roof in March 2021 and was repainted in October 2023. [5] [6]

Exhibits

Exhibits at the museum include original copies of the Japanese surrender documents. [7]

The museum holds an annual Wings and Wheels event. [19] [20] It previously held an annual Warbirds in Action Air Show. [21]

The Florence Air & Missile Museum was an aviation museum previously located at the entrance to the Florence Regional Airport, in Florence, South Carolina. The museum closed at the end of 1997.

Shafter Airport, also known as Minter Field and formerly known as Air Corps Basic Flying School, is a public use airport located four nautical miles east of the central business district of Shafter and 14 miles northwest of Bakersfield, a city in Kern County, California, United States. Originally a World War II primary training facility for pilots, it is currently a public airport owned by the Minter Field Airport District. This airport is included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015, which categorized it as a general aviation facility.
