Miss República Dominicana 1996 was held on December 16, 1995. There were 23 candidates, representing provinces and municipalities, who entered. The winner would represent the Dominican Republic at Miss Universe 1996 and Miss International 1996. The first runner up would enter Miss World 1996. The second runner up would enter in Reinado Internacional del Café 1996. The rest of finalist entered different pageants. The contest was one of the most scandalous ever, when jury and crowd started screaming “ Fraud” at the end of the night. Judges claim to have voted unanimously for crowd favorite, Anneliese Ortiz Mirabal from Salcedo. At a press conference days later, she surrender all titles won during the competition and was then named “ La Reina del Pueblo”.

Miss Universe 1996 45th Miss Universe pageant

Miss Universe 1996, the 45th Miss Universe pageant, was held on May 17, 1996 at Aladdin Theatre for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. Alicia Machado of Venezuela was crowned by Chelsi Smith from the United States at the end of the event. Seventy-nine contestants competed in 1996.

Miss International 1996 was held on October 26, 1996 at the Kanazawa Kagekiza in Kanazawa, Ishikawa, Japan. Fernanda Alves earned Portugal's first Miss International crown.

Then they would use their Swimsuit and would get points. Then they would use their Evening Gown and would get points as well. The judges would average them out and then selected a delegate who did the best from their region. They would get sashed by the region they were representing. Then they got questioned in the Top 6. They selected 3 candidate who answered great. The candidate would get a vote from the audience and the judges together and would get the winner from the highest vote. The winner would go to Miss World and become First Runner Up. In this edition, there is 3 candidate for each Dominican Regions.

The Miss Mundo Dominicana 2006 pageant was held on July 10, 2006. Only 16 candidates competed for the national crown. The chosen winner represented the Dominican Republic at the Miss World 2006. The runners-up could enter different small international pageants.
