Irakoze Erica, professionally known as Miss Erica, was a Burundian Singer-songwriter. [1] [2]

Early life

From Burundian and Rwandan parents Miss Erica grew up in Kigali. She embarked on a musical career after high school.

Career

She made her musical debut in 2011 as a member of the Kora Entertainment label in collaboration with Best Life Music. In 2016, Miss Erica formed a duo with Lacia and collaborated on a song with Burundian Superstar Sat-B titled Joto.

Many of her earlier songs were in the dancehall genre but Miss Erica surprised her following with highlife song Angalia in July 2017, featuring Kiwundo artists Vampino, Rabadaba, Diplomate and Milly. Other songs in her repertoire include Buziraherezo, Give me love and Mon Amour. [3] [4]

Cyprien Ntaryamira was a Burundian politician who served as President of Burundi from 5 February 1994 until his death two months later. A Hutu born in Burundi, Ntaryamira studied there before fleeing to Rwanda to avoid ethnic violence and complete his education. Active in a Burundian student movement, he cofounded the socialist Burundi Workers' Party and earned an agricultural degree. In 1983, he returned to Burundi and worked agricultural jobs, though he was briefly detained as a political prisoner. In 1986 he cofounded the Front for Democracy in Burundi (FRODEBU), and in 1993 FRODEBU won Burundi's general elections. He subsequently became the Minister of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry on 10 July, but in October Tutsi soldiers killed the president and other top officials in an attempted coup.

Pierre Ngendandumwe was a Burundian politician. He was a member of the Union for National Progress and was an ethnic Hutu. On 18 June 1963, about a year after Burundi gained independence and amidst efforts to bring about political cooperation between Hutus and the dominant minority Tutsis, Ngendandumwe became Burundi's first Hutu prime minister. He served as prime minister until 6 April 1964 and then became prime minister again on 7 January 1965, serving until his death. Eight days after beginning his second term, he was assassinated by a Rwandan Tutsi refugee.

The AfriMusic Song Contest is a pan-African song contest inspired by the Eurovision Song Contest. It was first held in 2018, when Eswatini won with singer songwriter Symphony performing her original song "Sengikhona". The second edition of the event in 2019 was won by singer songwriter, Nonzwakazi from South Africa with her original song "Phakama Mbokodo". In 2020, Nigeria took the win with singer songwriter Dhortune That OndoBoy, with his original song "Yemi". The contest will continue as an annual event, acting as an African counterpart to the continental song contests such as Eurovision Song Contest, ABU Song Festivals or Caribbean Song Festival. The Ikiza, or the Ubwicanyi (Killings), was a series of mass killings—often characterised as a genocide—which were committed in Burundi in 1972 by the Tutsi-dominated army and government, primarily against educated and elite Hutus who lived in the country. Conservative estimates place the death toll of the event between 100,000 and 150,000 killed, while some estimates of the death toll go as high as 300,000.

France originally planned to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song "Mon alliée " written by Tom Leeb, Léa Ivanne, Amir Haddad, John Lundvik, Peter Boström and Thomas G:son. The song was performed by Tom Leeb. The French broadcaster France Télévisions in collaboration with the television channel France 2 internally selected the French entry for the 2020 contest in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Tom Leeb was officially announced by France 2 as the French entrant on 14 January 2020 and later the song was presented to the public as the contest entry during a live performance by Leeb on 16 February 2020 during the France 2 programme 20H30 Le Dimanche.

Enisa Nikaj, known professionally as Enisa, is an American singer and songwriter. She began her music career in 2015 performing cover songs and began releasing original music in 2016. She signed to Atlantic Records and Highbridge The Label in December 2019, and competed in the American Song Contest in March 2022.
