Miss Manipur or Miss Manipur Queen is an annual beauty pageant that is run by the Manipur based Miss Manipur Committee (MMC). It is one of the most watched beauty pageants in North East India. It co-exists with Femina Miss India Manipur, Miss Kangleipak and Miss Meetei Chanu. The titleholder of Miss Manipur represents Manipur in the Miss North East, organised by Northeast Beauty Pageant Organisation (NEBPO) every year. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

History

Miss Manipur was first held in the year 1951. It is the first beauty pageant organised in Manipur. In October, 2012, the Miss Manipur event (that was about to be held on November 12, 2012) was banned by 42 civil society organizations including 17 women bodies of Manipur. The women associations accused the event organizers for converting the contest into commercial way and also for promoting improper dressings of the participants. [7] [8]

[9] In 2016, the ban was lifted up by the associations as the required rules and regulations for the event was finally composed. [9] [10]

Eligibility Criteria

A person is eligible to participate in the Miss Manipur contest if she is:

  1. of Indian origin (regardless of her birthplace) [11]
  2. belongs to the age group of 16–25 years [11]
  3. a resident of Manipur (documents required) [11]

From Aribam Syam Sharma's Paokhum Ama and M.A. Singh's Langlen Thadoi to Oken Amakcham's Lammei and Haobam Paban Kumar's Loktak Lairembee and many others, Manipuri cinema, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022, has grown in both its form and culture.

Femina Miss Manipur Queen or Miss India Manipur Queen is an annual beauty pageant that selects representatives from Manipur to compete in Miss India, and then to Miss World, one of the Big Four international beauty pageants. The event is organised by "Robert Naorem Studio and Academy", under the guidance of Robert Naorem. It is one of the most watched beauty pageants in North East India. It co-exists with Miss Manipur, Miss Kangleipak and Miss Meetei Chanu.

Founded in the year 2012 by the "Manipur Amateur Body Builders Association" (MABBA), Miss Kangleipak is sponsored by the "Janaki Bar Bell Club" (JBC), Singjamei and "Lamyanba Meitei Gym", Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak.

Femina Miss India 2023 was the 59th edition of the Femina Miss India beauty pageant. After a two-year hiatus, it was held on 15 April 2023 at Imphal, Manipur, with contestants from 29 states and a collective representative for all Union Territories adding up to 30 participants competed for the title.

Thounaojam Strela Luwang is an Indian television anchor, social activist, model and beauty pageant title holder who was crowned second runner up at Femina Miss India 2023. She represented her state Manipur at Femina Miss India 2023 after winning Femina Miss India Manipur 2023. She won Miss Manipur pageant held in 2017. She was also one of the top five finalists at the Miss Diva Northeast 2016-17. She was featured in 2018 educational film, Who Said Boys Can't Wear Makeup? directed by Priyakanta Laishram, which was the first-ever Indian film on gender-neutral fashion and men's make-up.

Martin Irengbam is an Indian model. He is native to Imphal, Manipur. He represents India at multiple international fashion shows, held across different countries. He is the winner of Mega Mister North East 2024 from Manipur state. He is also the representative of India at the Mister Top Model of Universe Contest, to be organised in Istanbul, Turkey. He is also the winner of the 13th edition of Set Wet Mega Mister North East. He is also the winner of the "Butterfly Mister Fashion Icon". He is placed among the Top Give of Man Hunt 2023.

Lukanand Kshetrimayum is an Indian actor, model, filmmaker and YouTuber. He is native to Manipur.

Sapam Nishikant Singh (1965) is an Indian politician from Manipur. He is an MLA from Keishamthong Assembly constituency in Imphal West District. He won the 2022 Manipur Legislative Assembly election, as an independent politician. After winning the Assembly seat, he pledged support to the Bharatiya Janata Party government.
