Miss Me Yet? refers to a series of roadside advertisements that first appeared in February 2010. It featured former U.S. President George W. Bush's image waving and smiling from a billboard over the words "MISS ME YET?", presumably as a critique of Presidential successor Barack Obama's performance in office. [1]
The billboard initially was spotted in February 2010, on Interstate 35 in Wyoming, Minnesota. Soon, many more billboards like it popped up around the country. [1] [2] It was first thought to be an Internet hoax, but has since been verified as a real billboard ad. [3] The billboard, which rapidly became an Internet meme, has also inspired a series of "Miss Me Yet?"-themed merchandise from online agencies such as CafePress. [4]
The billboard was mentioned on Rush Limbaugh's talk radio show as some callers mentioned the billboard did exist. [5] The billboard was later discovered to have been created by an anonymous source who wanted to remain that way as per billboard owner Schubert & Hoey Outdoor Advertising. [3] According to the billboard owner, the sign was purchased by a group of small business owners located in the seven-county metro area. [6] Mike Rivard, one of the six business owners from Minnesota, came forward and explained on Fox News that one of the reasons why they did it was that it was a hilarious message, and the image they used was found online. A shock site is a website that is intended to be offensive or disturbing to its viewers, though it can also contain elements of humor or evoke sexual arousal. Shock-oriented websites generally contain material that is pornographic, scatological, racist, antisemitic, sexist, graphically violent, insulting, vulgar, profane, or otherwise of some other provocative nature. Websites that are primarily fixated on real death and graphic violence are particularly referred to as gore sites. Some shock sites display a single picture, animation, video clip or small gallery, and are circulated via email or disguised in posts to discussion sites as a prank. Steven Jones distinguishes these sites from those that collect galleries where users search for shocking content, such as Rotten.com. Gallery sites can contain beheadings, execution, electrocution, suicide, murder, stoning, torching, police brutality, hangings, terrorism, cartel violence, drowning, vehicular accidents, war victims, rape, necrophilia, genital mutilation and other sexual crimes.
Rotten.com was a shock site active from 1996 to 2012. The website, which had the tagline "An archive of disturbing illustration", was devoted to morbid curiosities, pictures of violent acts, deformities, autopsy or forensic photographs, depictions of perverse sex acts, disturbing or misanthropic historical curiosities and hosted explicit, real-life, photographs and videos of real events such as suicides, murders, torture, open surgeries, mutilations and accidents. Founded in 1996, it was run by a developer known as Soylent Communications. Site updates slowed in 2009, with the final update in February 2012. The website's front page was last archived in February 2018.
goatse.cx, often spelled without the .cx top-level domain as Goatse, is an internet domain that originally housed an Internet shock site. Its front page featured a picture entitled hello.jpg, showing a close-up of a hunched-over naked man using both hands to stretch open his anus and expose his red rectum lit by the camera flash.
Sugarland is an American country music duo founded in Atlanta, Georgia. The duo consists of singer-songwriters Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush. They were founded in 2002, at which point Kristen Hall was also a member. All three had experience in folk rock: Nettles had recorded in the groups Soul Miner's Daughter and Jennifer Nettles Band, Bush had recorded two albums as one-half of the duo Billy Pilgrim, and Hall had recorded two solo albums. WorldStarHipHop is a content-aggregating video blog. Founded in 2005, the site averaged 1.2 million unique visitors a day in 2011. The site, operated by Worldstar, LLC, was founded by Lee "Q" O'Denat. Described by Vibe as a "remnant of the GeoCities generation", the site regularly features shocking events caught on video, music videos and assorted content targeted to young audiences. O'Denat who referred to himself as a "Haitian ghetto nerd", described WorldStarHipHop as the "CNN of the ghetto".
