José Daniel Ortega Saavedra is a Nicaraguan politician and the 58th president of Nicaragua since 2007. Previously, he was leader of Nicaragua from 1979 to 1990, first as Coordinator of the Junta of National Reconstruction from 1979 to 1985, and then as the 54th President from 1985 to 1990. During his first term, he implemented policies to achieve leftist reforms across Nicaragua. In later years, Ortega's left-wing radical politics cooled significantly, leading him to pursue pro-business policies and even rapprochement with the Catholic Church. However, in 2022, Ortega resumed repression of the Church, and has imprisoned prelate Rolando José Álvarez Lagos.
Nicaragua, officially the Republic of Nicaragua, is the geographically largest country in Central America, comprising 130,370 km2 (50,340 sq mi). With a population of 7,142,529 as of 2024, it is the third-most populous country in Central America after Guatemala and Honduras. Nicaragua is bordered by Honduras to the north, the Caribbean Sea to the east, Costa Rica to the south, and the Pacific Ocean and shared maritime borders with El Salvador to the west and Colombia to the east. Miss World 2001, the 51st edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 16 November 2001 at the Super Bowl of Sun City Entertainment Centre in Sun City, South Africa. 93 contestants from all over the world competed for the title. Priyanka Chopra of India crowned her successor Agbani Darego of Nigeria at the end of the event. This is the first time Nigeria won the title of Miss World.

Miss Grand Nicaragua is an annual national women's beauty pageant in Nicaragua founded by a León-based designer "Saúl Benítez" in 2020, aiming to select the country representative to compete at Miss Grand International. Formerly, throughout 2014–2017, the license of the contest belonged to Miss Mundo Nicaragua and Miss Nicaragua but the country representatives were either appointed or determined through the main contest of such organizations.
Miss Grand Nicaragua 2021 was the inaugural edition of the Miss Grand Nicaragua beauty pageant, held at the Teatro Municipal José de la Cruz Mena in León, Nicaragua, on August 8, 2021. Nine candidates from seven country's departments competed for the national titles, with Managua and the North Caribbean Coast each sending two candidates, of whom Epifanía Solís of Managua and Maycrin Jáenz of Granada were named Miss Grand Nicaragua 2021 and Miss Grand Nicaragua 2022, respectively. The contest was organized under the direction of Saul Benítez, a León-based designer who acquired the contest license in 2019.
