Mitch Perry Brownstein [1] (born July 3, 1961) [2] [3] is an American guitarist, keyboardist and record producer, best known for playing with artists including Alphonso Johnson, Michael Schenker, Edgar Winter, Lita Ford, The Sweet, Asia, Cher, Talas and Steeler. [4]
Perry was born in New York City. Between 1971 and 1974, Perry lived in Fulham, London and went to Westminster City School, after that the family moved to Florida. [1] Perry started playing guitar when he lived in England, he was initially taught by his mom who showed him a few chords, [1] he first got motived to play the instrument from a boy at his school. [1] He played guitar along to Top of the Pops, including to "Rubber Bullets" by 10cc. [1]
Perry was a member of a band called The Kids with Bruce Witkin (later of the Hollywood Vampires with Johnny Depp) when he was 14. When Perry got his first gig in California, Depp replaced him in the band. [5] [6] [1] Perry moved to California to play with Alphonso Johnson (Weather Report, Santana) after being recommended by Pat Thrall who liked his style of playing, [1] in that band he played with Vinny Appice, [7] who would join Black Sabbath and Dio. The trio apparently recorded an album that was two weeks away from release before the A&R department at Electra was fired and the album was shelved. [1] Perry briefly played in DuBrow, a spin off of Quiet Riot after Randy Rhodes left to join Ozzy Osbourne, with Kevin DuBrow, Rudy Sarzo and Drew Forsyth. [1] He replaced Greg Leon for a few shows, before joining Glenn Hughes after being recommended by Ronnie James Dio. Perry was responsible for connecting Hughes with Pat Thrall to create the Hughes/Thrall project. [1]
Following his stint with Hughes he played with Steeler with Ron Keel, replacing Yngwie Malmsteen. [8] He was noticed by Billy Sheehan and joined his band Talas, [1] appearing on live album Live Speed on Ice (1984). [9] He joined Australian band Heaven in 1984, [8] he played on their album Knockin' on Heaven's Door, on which he also played keyboards. [1]
During this time Perry appeared as a guest in several works by artists such as Faster Pussycat, [1] Keel, [1] Frankie Miller [10] and Graham Nash. [1] In 1987 he joined McAuley Schenker Group, with German guitar virtuoso Michael Schenker and former Grand Prix vocalist Robin McAuley, replacing Steve Mann on guitar and keyboards. [11] [12] [13] He played rhythm and lead guitar as well as backing vocals on the bands debut album, Perfect Timing . With McAuley Schenker he toured alongside Def Leppard [14] and Whitesnake. [15] He left the band in 1988 and was replaced by the returning Mann. [16]
Perry was guitarist for Cher, he got the Cher gig after she decided that the person she had auditioned, she didn't like. A friend of his who was in her band recommended him, he toured for the 'Heart Of Stone' tour. [1] [17] Before going on tour with Cher he joined David Lee Roth's band as a replacement for Steve Vai for two weeks. [18] [1] After touring with Cher he formed a supergroup with Paul Shortino (Rough Cutt, Quiet Riot) and Sean McNabb (Quiet Riot, House of Lords) the project also included Rich Carlton and Matt Abts on drums and Michael Guy and Steve Fister on guitar who all contributed to the bands self titled album, [19] which was later re-issued as No, No, Nikkie with drummer James Kottak also contributing. [20] Badd Boyz morphed into 7% Solution with Shortino being replaced by Ralph Saenz (Steel Panther, L.A. Guns). [10]
In 1994 Mitch joined Edgar Winter, after collaborating with the well-known drummer Carmine Appice in a project with which he participated in a tour called 'Super Rock Session' in Japan. He played with Winter for over eight years, playing with former Winter guitarist Rick Derringer and Ronnie Montrose. [1] Perry left Winter in 2001 to become a full time racing car driver. [1] Winter played saxophone on Perry's first solo album Wire To Wire (1996).
In 2009, Perry joined Asia featuring John Payne, an offshoot of progressive rock band Asia by bassist and singer John Payne. He replaced Guthrie Govan, [21] and continued to tour with the band until August 2011 when he was replaced by former Racer X, guitarist Bruce Bouillet. [22] During the 2010s he was a member if former Runaways guitarist, Lita Ford's band, appearing on her live album The Bitch Is Back ... Live, [23] In 2014 he left Lita Ford [24] and joined The Sweet with founding member Steve Priest, [25] a band which he continued to tour with until Priest's death in June 2020. [26] In 2016 he joined Bobby Blotzer's Ratt as lead guitarist, the band at the time featured Blotzer on drums, Perry on lead guitar, Stacey Blades (L.A. Guns) on rhythm guitar, Brad Lang (Y&T) on bass and Joshua Alan on vocals. [27] Perry toured with Blotzer's Ratt until they dispanded in 2017. [28]
Perry also tours with his solo band the Mitch Perry Group, which includes Keith England, Shelly Bonet and Kara Turner, who front the band, drummer Tal Bergman, bassist Dan McNay and keyboardist Ed Roth. [29]

Michael Schenker is a German guitarist. He played in the rock band UFO and leads the Michael Schenker Group (MSG). He was an early member of the hard rock band Scorpions, a band co-founded by his elder brother Rudolf Schenker. In the mid-1970s, Schenker joined UFO, playing lead and rhythm guitar. He left the band in 1978 to briefly rejoin Scorpions for the recording of Lovedrive, and then to form MSG. He has rejoined UFO three times, producing an album each time. Schenker continues to perform and record. He has been called "a legendary figure in the history of metal guitar."
Stephen Eric Pearcy is an American musician who is the founder, singer, songwriter of the heavy metal band Ratt. He has also created the bands Firedome, Crystal Pystal, Arcade, Vicious Delite, and Vertex. He has also recorded seven albums as a solo artist.
James Kottak was an American drummer, best known for his work with the German hard rock band Scorpions, which he joined in 1996. At the time of his firing from the band in 2016, he was their longest-serving drummer. Kottak was also an original member of Kingdom Come, of whom he was their drummer from 1987 to 1989 and again from 2018 to his death in 2024, and he had his own band Kottak, formerly known as KrunK. Other bands Kottak played for were Montrose, Warrant, Wild Horses, the McAuley Schenker Group, and Buster Brown.
Robert John Blotzer is an American musician best known as the drummer for metal band Ratt. He attended Torrance High School in Torrance, California along with his future Ratt bandmate Juan Croucier.
John Corabi is an American hard rock singer and guitarist. He was the frontman of The Scream during 1989 and the frontman of Mötley Crüe between 1992 and 1996 during original frontman Vince Neil's hiatus from the band.
Guthrie Govan is a British guitarist and guitar teacher, known for his work with the bands the Aristocrats, Asia, GPS, the Young Punx and the Fellowship, as well as his solo project Erotic Cakes. More recently, he has collaborated with Steven Wilson and Hans Zimmer. He is a noted guitar teacher, working with the UK magazine Guitar Techniques, Guildford's Academy of Contemporary Music, Lick Library, and formerly the Brighton Institute of Modern Music. Govan was named "Guitarist of the Year" by Guitarist magazine in 1993.
The Michael Schenker Group is an English hard rock band, formed in London in 1979 by former Scorpions and UFO guitarist Michael Schenker. After the release of their second live album, 1984's Rock Will Never Die, its members began to have serious discussions that caused a two-year hiatus, and Michael ended the band in 1986. In 1986, Schenker and vocalist Robin McAuley formed the McAuley Schenker Group, which lasted until 1993. Afterwards, in 1996, the Michael Schenker Group was reformed.
Steeler was an early 1980s American heavy metal band formed in 1981 in Nashville, Tennessee by vocalist Ron Keel. The band released its self-titled sole album on Shrapnel Records in 1983. Soon after, Ron dissolved the band to form his band Keel. Steeler is also notable for featuring then-emerging guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen, who left to form Alcatrazz shortly after the self-titled album and launch a solo career.
Contraband was a short-lived supergroup/side project that included members of several famous rock bands from the 1980s, such as Shark Island, McAuley Schenker Group, Ratt, L.A. Guns, and Vixen.

McAuley Schenker Group was a multi-national rock band based in Los Angeles featuring core members Robin McAuley (vocals) and Michael Schenker (guitar), a successor to Schenker's earlier band Michael Schenker Group. McAuley was initially contacted to replace singer Gary Barden in MSG. However, the strong partnership immediately formed between McAuley and Schenker led to the change of the name from Michael Schenker Group to McAuley Schenker Group, retaining the same initials of the previous band MSG.
"Shame Shame Shame" is a single by American heavy metal band Ratt, released on their album Detonator. The song's lyrics focus mainly on cheating. The song was co-written by famed songwriter Desmond Child, Ratt guitarist Warren DeMartini and lead singer Stephen Pearcy. The song features a slow detuned opening guitar solo, titled "Intro To Shame", that suddenly speeds up at the 0:55 mark until the drums and the bass come in at 1:01 into the song.
Asia featuring John Payne is a British–American rock group band formed in 2007 following a schism in the lineup of Asia. The band is a continuation of singer and bassist John Payne's career as the band's frontman from 1991 to 2006, performing songs recorded before and during this time. In December 2017, Payne and keyboardist Erik Norlander formed a new group, Dukes of the Orient, with various members and ex-members of Asia featuring John Payne as collaborators. Asia featuring John Payne remains active as a touring stage show.
Saints of The Underground was an American hard rock supergroup formed in 2006 by Ratt drummer Bobby Blotzer and now former Alice Cooper guitarist Keri Kelli, who recruited ex-Warrant singer Jani Lane and House of Lords bassist Chuck Wright.
Perfect Timing is the debut album recorded by the McAuley Schenker Group. It was the first collaboration between Michael Schenker and Robin McAuley, resulting in Schenker's first top 100 US hit with the song "Gimme Your Love."
Ratt was an American glam metal band that had significant commercial success in the 1980s, with their albums having been certified as gold, platinum and multi-platinum by the RIAA. The group is perhaps best known for hit singles such as "Round and Round" and "Lay It Down", tracks that ranked on Billboard's top 40 at No. 12 and No. 40, respectively, as well as other songs such as "Wanted Man", "You're in Love" and "Dance". Along with bands such as friendly rivals Mötley Crüe, Ratt has been recognized as instrumental in the formation of the early 1980s Los Angeles glam metal scene, also known as "hair metal" or "pop metal".
Bradley Allen Lang is an American bassist. He became known for playing with Y&T, replacing long-time group member Phil Kennemore, after the latter was diagnosed with lung cancer. He later played with Bobby Blotzer's Ratt. He currently is playing with the BulletBoys.
Steve Mann is an English guitarist, keyboardist, record producer and engineer, best known as a member of Andy Scott's Sweet from 1989 to 1995 and as a member of many bands by German guitarist Michael Schenker.
