The Mitsubishi Nessie is a concept automobile co-developed by Italdesign Giugiaro, The Linde Group and Mitsubishi Motors, and exhibited at the 2005 Geneva Auto Show. It is the latest in a line of SUVs, space-wagons and alternative architectures designed by Giugiaro dating back to 1978 and the Lancia Megagamma, with more recent examples including the Giugiaro Touareg (2002), Maserati Kubang (2003) and Volkswagen Tarek (2003). In 2011, Mitsubishi Motors was the sixth-biggest Japanese automaker and the nineteenth-biggest worldwide by production. From October 2016 onwards, Mitsubishi has been one-third (34%) owned by Nissan, and thus a part of the Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance.
The Lancia Megagamma is a small one-box concept MPV designed by Italdesign and introduced at the 1978 Turin Motor Show. In retrospect the Megagamma was more influential on later designs than it was itself successful, becoming the "conceptual birth mother of the MPV/minivan movement."
It uses the platform of the Dakar Rally-winning Mitsubishi Pajero and a hydrogen-powered V8 engine developed by German industrial gases company The Linde Group, mated to an automatic transmission. Styling features include 22 inch front and 23 inch rear wheels, glass panels in the lower half of the doors to enhance visibility in town or off-road, and an arrow-shaped roll bar/roof-rack which extends from the C-pillars over the glass roof, without being affixed to it. Most events since the inception in 1978 were from Paris, France, to Dakar, Senegal, but due to security threats in Mauritania, which led to the cancellation of the 2008 rally, races since 2009 have been held in South America. The race is open to amateur and professional entries, amateurs typically making up about eighty percent of the participants.

It was originally known as the Mitsubishi Airtrek when it was introduced in Japan in 2001, and was based on the Mitsubishi ASX concept vehicle exhibited at the 2001 North American International Auto Show. It was sold at Mitsubishi Japan dealership chain called Car Plaza. The ASX represented Mitsubishi's approach to the industry wide crossover SUV trend for retaining the all-season and off-road abilities offered by a high ground clearance and four-wheel drive, while still offering car-like levels of emissions, economy, and size.

The Bugatti EB 118 is the first concept car developed by Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S.. The 2-door coupé was presented at the 1998 Paris Motor Show. Bugatti commissioned the design of the EB 118 to Giorgetto Giugiaro of Italdesign. The EB 118 is powered by a W18 engine and has permanent four wheel drive.
The Geneva International Motor Show is an annual auto show held in March in the Swiss city of Geneva. The show is hosted at the Palexpo, a convention centre located next to the Geneva Cointrin International Airport. Mirroring trends throughout the automotive industry, the company is reducing the number of distinct platforms, and increasing platform sharing across its ranges. Following DaimlerChrysler's purchase of a controlling stake in Mitsubishi in 2001, part of the subsequent cost-cutting drive initiated by Rolf Eckrodt upon his employment as chief executive officer of MMC was to reduce the number of platforms from twelve to six. Similarly, Stefan Jacoby, the CEO of Mitsubishi Motor Sales Europe, expressed concern in 2002 that the company would need to rationalize its platforms, even if the number of models sold were to increase.

The Bugatti 18/3 Chiron is a 1999 concept car developed by French automobile manufacturer Bugatti Automobiles and designed by Fabrizio Giugiaro of Italdesign. Powered by a 6.3 L W18 engine, it is a 2-seater mid-engine coupé. The 18/3 Chiron was the last in a trio of Bugatti concept cars by Italdesign, after the 1998 EB 118 coupé and the 1999 EB 218 saloon.
The Mitsubishi MR platform is an automobile platform first developed by Mitsubishi Motors in 2003 for their Mitsubishi i kei car. The name is derived from the Mid-engined, Rear-wheel drive ("MR") configuration, which locates the powertrain behind the rear seat and just ahead of the rear axle. This allows for a longer wheelbase and a consequently more spacious interior without compromising crashworthiness or fuel economy.

On 24 May 2010, GreenTech Automotive (GTA) acquired EuAuto Technology.
The Mitsubishi Concept PX-MiEV is a prototype plug-in hybrid crossover utility vehicle, first exhibited at the Tokyo Motor Show in September 2009. It uses an 85 kW 1.6-litre gasoline engine as a powerplant and generator for two 30 kW electric motors, one on each axle. Mitsubishi claims it to be capable of up to 50 kilometres per litre under optimal driving conditions.
