Mohan Kishore Namadas was an Indian revolutionary and independence fighter in the 1930s. [1] [2] [3]

Revolutionary activities

He was an active member of Anushilan Samiti of Kolkata. He was sentenced to seven years imprisonment due to membership of Netrokona Soarikanda Political action case and deported to Cellular Jail in Andaman Islands. He took part in the hunger strike of 1933 to protest against the inhuman treatment meted to the prisoners along with Mohit Moitra (convicted in Arms Act Case), Mahavir Singh (convicted in Second Lahore Conspiracy Case) and 30 others. He died on 26 May 1933 due to the brutal force feeding process. Mohit Moitra and Mahavir Singh also died during the Hunger Strike. [1] [2] [3]

Cellular Jail Indian island colonial prison

The Cellular Jail, also known as Kālā Pānī, was a colonial prison in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. The prison was used by the British government for the purpose of exiling political prisoners to the remote archipelago. Many notable freedom fighters, including Diwan Singh Kalepani, Fazl-e-Haq Khairabadi, Yogendra Shukla, Batukeshwar Dutt, Shadan Chandra Chatterjee, Sohan Singh, Hare Krishna Konar, Shiv Verma, and Sudhanshu Dasgupta were imprisoned here during the struggle for India's independence. Today, the complex serves as a national memorial monument.

Jugantar or Yugantar was one of the two main secret revolutionary trends operating in Bengal for Indian independence. This association, like Anushilan Samiti, started in the guise of suburban fitness club. Several Jugantar members were arrested, hanged, or deported for life to the Cellular Jail in Andaman and many of them joined the Communist Consolidation in the Cellular Jail.

Batukeshwar Dutt Indian revolutionary (1910-1965)

Batukeshwar Duttpronunciation  was an Indian socialist revolutionary and independence fighter in the early 1900s. He is best known for having exploded two bombs, along with Bhagat Singh, in the Central Legislative Assembly in New Delhi on 8 April 1929. After they were arrested, tried and imprisoned for life, he and Singh initiated a historic hunger strike protesting against the abusive treatment of Indian political prisoners, and eventually secured some rights for them. He was also a member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association.

Communist Consolidation was an Indian independence and communist organization, formed among the prisoners of the Cellular Jail in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 26 April 1935. It was the largest resistance group against British rule in the Cellular Jail, and the historical 36-day hunger strike in 1937 was led by this organization. Many legendary freedom fighters were members of this organization, which had the goals of uprooting British rule and creating a communist India.

Yogendra Shukla was an Indian nationalist, freedom fighter from Bihar. He served in the Cellular Jail (Kalapani), and he was among the founders of Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA). Along with Basawon Singh (Sinha) he was among the founder members of Congress Socialist Party from Bihar.

Hare Krishna Konar Indian revolutionary and politician (1915–1974)

Hare Krishna Konar was an Indian communist politician and revolutionary freedom fighter and was the founding member of the Communist Party of India Marxist, who played a major role in land reforms and Benami system in India and over half a decade he serve as General Secretary of All India Kisan Sabha. He was the member of first central committee of Communist Party of India (Marxist) and he was also the Minister of Land and Land Revenue (Reforms) in government of West Bengal and the member of West Bengal Legislative Assembly and he has also played major role in Communist movement in India and Peasant movement. He was one of the revolutionary freedom fighters of India, for joining the Jugantar group associated with Anushilan Samiti he was deported to Cellular Jail for 6 years at the age of 18 and their he took part in both the Hunger strike and founded the Communist Consolidation in Cellular prison on 1935.

Ananta Lal Singh was an Indian revolutionary, who participated in the Chittagong armoury raid in 1930. Later, he founded a far-left radical communist group, the Revolutionary Communist Council of India.

Srish Pal was a Bengali revolutionary, born in Mulbarga, Dacca, British India. His full name was Shrish Chandra Pal. He was attracted to revolutionary politics in 1905 with the guidance of Hemchandra Ghosh. He joined the Dhaka-based Mukti Sangha. Pal was a follower of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Mohit Mohan Moitra was an Indian revolutionary and Indian independence movement fighter in the 1930s.

Premananda Dutta was a Bengali revolutionary and activist of Indian freedom struggle attached with Chittagong Rebellion against the British Government in India.

Mahavir Singh (revolutionary)

Mahavir Singh Rathore was an Indian revolutionary and independence fighter in the 1930s. Mahavir Singh was a member of Naujawan Bharat Sabha. He helped in the escape of Bhagat Singh, Batukeshwar Dutt and Durgawati Devi from Mauzang House in Lahore..He was arrested as part of the Second Lahore Conspiracy Case and took part in the Hunger Strike of 1933 to protest the treatment of prisoners along with Mohit Moitra and Mohan Kishore Namadas and 30 others. Mahavir Singh died on 17 May 1933 due to force feeding. Mohit Moitra and Mohan Kishore Namadas also died during the Hunger Strike. A statue was erected in front of the Cellular Jail in his honor.
