Mohan Parasaran is a Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court of India. In February 2013 he was appointed the Solicitor General of India and continued in this post till May 2014. He served as part of the Congress led UPA 2 government. [1] Previously he held the post of Additional Solicitor General of India for nine years. [2] In 2012,he resigned from the post of Additional Solicitor General but the resignation was not accepted by the Government. [3] He was designated senior advocate in 2002. [4]
Parasaran is the son of the former Attorney General of India and Senior Advocate,K. Parasaran and Saroja Parasaran. [5] He has two brothers and two sisters. [6] He lives in New Delhi,but frequents Chennai,where he grew up. His mother Mrs Saroja Parasaran is first cousin of actor Kamalahasan.
Parasaran has received the B.A. (Economics) First Class from the University of Madras in 1981,a Bachelor of Law degree from Faculty of Law,University of Delhi in 1984 and a Master of Laws from the University of Cambridge. [7] [8]
Parasaran was appointed as the Solicitor General of India after this post become vacant due to resignation of Rohinton Nariman before completion of his tenure. Rohinton Nariman had resigned from the post,allegedly,following a difference of opinion with the Law Minister,Ashwini Kumar. [9] Mohan Parasaran's appointment as Solicitor General of India came to an end in May 2014 with the change in Government,and in his place,Ranjit Kumar has been appointed as the new Solicitor General of India with effect from 7 Jun 2014. [10]
Parasaran has represented the Government of India in landmark cases,including the dispute between the Ambani brothers on the KGD6 gasfields,international tax matters with revenue effect of over $3.2 billion in the Vodafone case,the levy of luxury tax,sports regulation,and public interest matters concerning food security and shelter. [11] He has also appeared in the Commission of Inquiry,which probed into the Boeing 737 crash in Mangalore. [12]
The Supreme Court of India is the supreme judicial authority and the highest court of the Republic of India. It is the final court of appeal for all civil and criminal cases in India. It also has the power of judicial review. The Supreme Court,which consists of the Chief Justice of India and a maximum of fellow 33 judges,has extensive powers in the form of original,appellate and advisory jurisdictions.
The Attorney General of India is the chief legal advisor of the Government of India. The attorney general is appointed by the President of India at the instance of the Union Cabinet under Article 76(1) of the Constitution and hold office during the pleasure of the President. The attorney general must be a person qualified to be appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court. Hence,the attorney general must have been a judge of a high court for five years or an advocate of a high court for ten years,or an eminent jurist in the opinion of the President.

Keshava Parasaran is a lawyer from India. He was Advocate General of Tamil Nadu during President's rule in 1976,Solicitor General of India under the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and then,Attorney General of India under Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi between 1983 and 1989,till the end of Rajiv Gandhi's tenure. The trust will oversee the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
Rohinton Fali Nariman is a former judge of the Supreme Court of India. Before being elevated as a judge,he practised as a senior counsel at the Supreme Court. He was appointed the Solicitor General of India on 23 July 2011. He also served as a member of the Bar Council of India. He was designated as a Senior Counsel by Chief Justice Manepalli Narayana Rao Venkatachaliah in 1993 at the early age of 37.

Ranjit Kumar is a senior advocate practising in Supreme Court of India and the former Solicitor General of India. He was appointed in 2014 by the incumbent government of Narendra Modi,succeeding Mohan Parasaran. The notification for his appointment as Solicitor General of India was issued by the Law Ministry on 7 June 2014. Ranjit Kumar resigned from his post on 20 October 2017 citing a personal family-related reason.
