ASP Mohd Zabri Bin Abdul Hamid, S.P. was a police officer most remembered as a member and officer of the Royal Malaysia Police 69 Commandos of the Pasukan Gerakan Khas.

Background

Mohd Zabri was born in Tapah, Perak on 15 August 1937 and was the second child of his family.

Police career

Mohd Zabri commenced his career as a police officer on 1 June 1963 as a Probationary Inspector. After passed the training at PULAPOL on Semarak Street, he was transferred to the Penang Police Contingent on 18 March 1963 and then he was transferred to the Police Field Force unit (now General Operations Force) on 29 March 1965 as the Platoon commander. In July 1970, Zabri joined the 69 Commandos and he passed the selection after being trained in five months. Later, he was appointed as a Commando Chief Instructor from April to August 1971 to be trained with new officers and men joining the team which is known as the 3rd 69 Commando Platoon, which was located in Legap Fort, Perak.

Zabri also was committed in an operation which was known as the Ops Jemput Tiga, which jointly operated with the Malaysian Special Branch and the Indonesian Army (TNI-AD) which had special intelligence for hunting down the North Kalimantan Communist Party (PARAKU) which was located at the Sarawak-Kalimantan border. In an operation which was joined by a comprising team which included the 69 Commandos and Kostrad (Strategy Commando Army Proposal) TNI-AD and taken in five months in which both teams had a successful attack on both strongholds of PARAKU's group, the 69 Commandos, which were led by Zabri in the battle, sparked and toppled a few members of the PARAKU on the Indonesian security team.

Besides the Ops Jemput Tiga, Zabri also led the three platoons to Hulu Perak in August 1975 to intercept the communist who was involved in the murder case of four Extra Police Constable members from the Grik Police Station where the four officers were killed. On 3 September 1975, his units succeeded in detecting the enemy camp positions near the Grik and the occurrence of a clash between the 69 Commandos leaderships by Zabri with the communists, which possessed membership of as many as 30 to 40 before the terrorists retreat. In the battle, two officers, Corporal Sheikh Ismail and Corporal Aziz Idris, were wounded during the shootout and the reinforcement to the Tek Tapong Unit from a communications message had been requested. His units then had an outcome of spot-checking on an abandoned communist camp after the battle, in which they seized six filled backpacks of food, clothes, two mortars, 18 explosives, 15 food supply boxes, medicines and a few other goods. Besides, they also re-seized the three service shotguns which were believed that were owned by the four killed Extra Police Constable members.

Death

On 4 September 1975, Zabri was killed when he stepped on a booby-trap which was set up by the communist while taking two wounded members to an extraction point area after an operation of hunting down the communist who killed extra policemen who were sent to the hospital. His right leg was broken and suffered serious wounds, leading to blood loss. He died while giving a message to his team members. [1] He was buried in Tapah, Perak.

To commemorate his service, he was promoted as an Assistant Superintendent rank and a 69 Commando training camp in Tasik Banding was named after him. [2]

In June 2014, Zabri received the Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa (S.P.), the highest and most distinguished Federal award. [3]

Kanang anak Langkau

WO1 Temenggong Datuk Kanang anak Langkau, SP, PGB, PGBK, PBS (Rt) was a Malaysian hero and soldier from the Iban Dayak community in Sarawak. He was in the Royal Ranger Regiment and Regimental Sergeant Major of 8 Renjer of the Malaysian Army with his tag number of 901378. He was awarded the Panglima Gagah Berani and Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa medals from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ahmad Shah on 3 June 1981. He is the sole recipient of both the Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa and Pingat Gagah Berani, and was the last living recipient of the Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa.

General Operations Force Military unit

The General Operations Force is the light infantry arm of the Royal Malaysia Police. The General Operations Force was established in 1948 during the Malayan Emergency by the British Administration when Malaya was a colony. The police service was mobilised to the field role, primarily to engaging Communist guerrillas during the emerging Insurgency. When Malaysia was formed in 1963, this law enforcement unit was then known as the Police Field Force. The title was adopted when it dropped the previous handle widely referred to as the Jungle Squad.

Abdul Razak Mohd Yusof

SAC Dato' Abdul Razak bin Mohd Yusof is a senior police officer, martial artist and one of the national heroes from the Royal Malaysia Police 69 Commando of the Pasukan Gerakan Khas. He is a recipient of the Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa (S.P.) award, the highest federal award of Malaysia.

Mat Aznan was posthumously awarded the Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa (SP) for his actions during the Battle of Mogadishu on October 1993. He was a Royal Malay Regiment soldier and hailed from Kampung Parit Panjang, Baling, Kedah.

The 69 Commando ; also known as Very Able Troopers 69 is an elite multi-tasking special forces unit of the Royal Malaysia Police. The VAT 69 is based at Ulu Kinta, Perak and together with Special Actions Unit, they are part of Pasukan Gerakan Khas. The mission of 69 Commando is to conduct high-risk tasks such as counter-terrorism, hostage rescue, intelligence gathering and counter-insurgency within the borders of Malaysia.

8th Battalion (Parachute), Royal Ranger Regiment Military unit

The 8th Battalion (Parachute), Royal Ranger Regiment, better known as the 8 RRD or 8 RRD (Para) – abbreviation from its local name, is a battalion-sized airborne infantry from the Royal Ranger Regiment of the Malaysian Army. On 10 October 1994 the 8 RRD became part of the 10th Parachute Brigade. The 8 RRD is the first infantry unit in the Malaysian Army transformed from a conventional to an airborne unit.

The Sauk Siege was a military standoff that happened on 5 July 2000. It was a attempted coup d'état for Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Malaysian Government by Al-Ma'unah led by Muhammad Amin Mohamed Razali.
