Mohsen Qomi (Persian :محسنقمی) is an Iranian cleric,conservative politician and a member of the Assembly of Experts.
Qomi is a cleric and has the title of Hojjatal Islam. [1] He is a member of the board of trustees of the Islamic Coalition Society. [2] In 2016,he joined Combatant Clergy Association. [3]
He has been a member of the Assembly of Experts,representing Tehran. [4] He was also elected to the fourth assembly in 2011,again representing Tehran. [5] [6]
Until his resignation in January 2006 Qomi was the director of the Supreme Leader Khamanei's representative office in the Iranian universities. [7] The same date he was named a member to the high council of cultural revolution and also the council of the representative office in the Iranian universities. [7] He has also been serving as the deputy head of the Supreme Leader's office on international affairs and communications. [8]
In late July 2013,the Mehr news agency reported that he was the only candidate for the intelligence minister at the cabinet of newly-elect president Hassan Rouhani. [1] However,not Qomi but Mahmoud Alavi was nominated for the post on 4 August. [9]
Ali Akbar Hashimi Bahramani Rafsanjani was an Iranian politician and writer who served as the fourth president of Iran from 1989 to 1997. One of the founding fathers of the Islamic Republic,Rafsanjani was the head of the Assembly of Experts from 2007 until 2011 when he decided not to nominate himself for the post. He was also the chairman of the Expediency Discernment Council.

Ali Ardeshir Larijani is an Iranian politician and former military officer in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,who served as the Speaker of the Parliament of Iran from 2008 to 2020. He has been a member of the Expediency Discernment Council since 2020,having previously served from 1997 to 2008. Larijani filed for candidacy in the 2024 presidential election,but was ultimately disqualified. He previously ran in 2005,but was disqualified from running in 2021.

The Special Clerical Court can defrock and disbar Islamic jurists,give sentences of imprisonment,corporal punishment,execution,etc. The court functions independently of the regular Iranian judicial framework,with its own security and prison systems,"generally secret and confidential" cases,proceedings and procedures,and is accountable only to the Supreme Leader of Iran,. The most senior Islamic politician to be prosecuted and sentenced to prison since the Iranian Revolution was Abdollah Nouri who was sentenced to five years in prison for political and religious dissent by the court in 1999.

Grand Ayatollah Ahmad Azari-Qomi-Bigdeli was an Iranian cleric. Born in 1925 in Qom,after the 1979 Iranian Revolution he served on the Special Clerical Court,and Assembly of Experts,founded the conservative Resalat Newspaper. He was arrested in November 1997 after an open letter by him was published in Britain criticizing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei for allowing torture and "moral corruption" among officials and clerics. Shortly after Khamenei denounced him in a televised speech for allegedly committing "treason against the people,the revolution and the country." His renewed candidacy for the Assembly of Experts was rejected by the Guardian Council the next year and he died in 1999.
The supreme leader of Iran,also referred to as Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution,but officially called the Supreme Leadership Authority,is the head of state and the highest political and religious authority of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Hassan Rouhani is an Iranian politician who served as the seventh president of Iran from 2013 to 2021. He is also a sharia lawyer ("Wakil"),academic,former diplomat and Islamic cleric. He served as a member of Iran's Assembly of Experts from 1999 to 2024. He was a member of the Expediency Council from 1991 to 2013,and also was a member of the Supreme National Security Council from 1989 to 2021. Ali Tayebnia is an Iranian academic,economist and President Pezeshkian's supreme advisor since 2024. He was designated by President Hassan Rouhani for the position of finance minister on 4 August 2013 and was confirmed by the parliament on 15 August. He left the office on 20 August 2017.

All 88 members of the Assembly of Experts,who are known as mujtahids,are directly elected. Pervasive Coalition of Reformists:The Second Step,named The List of Hope by Mohammad Khatami,was the sole coalition and electoral list affiliated with the Iranian reform movement for the 2016 legislative election. The group also endorsed candidates for the 2016 Assembly of Experts election. Reformists backed a list of 236 candidates for the Parliament and 77 for the Assembly of Experts,even though many of them are not reformists but moderate-leaning figures.
The 2024 Iranian Assembly of Experts election were held on 1 March 2024,concurrently with the elections of the Islamic Consultative Majlis. Directly elected by the public from a list of candidates vetted by the Guardian Council,the Assembly of Experts is made up of 88 clerics with the responsibility of supervising the Supreme Leader and selecting a new one.
