Moirangthem Inao is a noted Indian playwright, lyricist, producer and director from Imphal, Manipur. [1] [2] He has scripted around 90 plays and most of them are popular radio plays aired on All India Radio, Imphal. Inao has also directed famous Manipuri movies like Nongallabasu Thaballei Manam and Laang. [3] The dialogues from his radio plays have a unique charm and are famous among the radio play lovers of Manipur. [4] [5]

Inao was an editor of the journal Athouba. He produced movies under his home production Tondon Films. He bagged the Best Story and Special Jury awards at the 3rd Sahitya Seva Samiti MANIFA 2014 for the film Abem. [6]

Early life and education

Born as youngest son among seven siblings, Inao began his schooling from Uripok Boys' School and Uripok Eigya Pishak Mandav school where he studied from I to VIII standard. In 1963, he passed Matriculation from Tombisana High School. He completed graduation from D.M. College in Political Science in 1967. He studied Law for sometime but could not complete the course due to some personal problems. After passing graduation, he went to Kashmir for further studies in 1971 but returned home without completing studies. Finally, he completed master's degree from Manipur University in Manipuri. His family shifted to Uripok Ningthoukhongjam Leikai during Second World War, locally known as Japan Laan in Manipur.

Career

He started writing poetry and short stories since his IX standard. He started scripting radio plays for All India Radio in June-July 1978. His first radio play is Ahing Ama. Most of his plays aired on All India Radio, Imphal are well received by the radio listeners of Manipur. Among them, Chatledo Eidi Meigee Ching Puduna, Nongallabasu Thaballei Manam, Anuradhapur Ashramgee Rajkumar, Ingengi Aitya may be mentioned. [7] His radio play Marup Ani was translated into Hindi and aired on Akashvani All India Radio as Do Dost.[ citation needed ]

His radio play Chatledo Eidi Meigee Ching Puduna was made into a movie by Makhonmani Mongsaba and titled as Chatledo Eidi . It won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Manipuri at the 48th National Film Awards and was selected for Indian Panorama of IFFI 2001. Makhonmani Mongsaba also directed Yenning Amadi Likla , a 2007 movie and scripted by Moirangthem Inao. It got selection in Indian Panorama of the 39th International Film Festival of India 2008. The renowned filmmakers of Manipur have also made many feature films scripted by Inao. Ingengi Atiya, Lallibadi Eini, Angangba Kurao Mapal, Inga Nonglakta, Kekoo Lotpee and Pankhei are such of his films.[ citation needed ]

As of 2016, he scripted a movie named as Pakhatli.[ citation needed ]

It stars Muru Ningthoujam, Huirem Seema, Lairenjam Olen and Reshmi Samom in the lead roles. The story of the film was written by Moirangthem Inao. The film was made in 16 mm and blown up in 35 mm. It was processed at Prasad Laboratory, Chennai.

Gokul Athokpam is an Indian actor who appears in Manipuri films. In addition to films, he has also worked in theatres, and has acted in many Shumang Kumheis, including Lidicegee Gulap, Nangna Luhongdringei and Lambidudei. In 2001, he got the title of Dawn Actor. He has acted in many famous Manipuri films. Among them, Lucy Kamei, Tayai, Thabaton-1,2, Thouri, Imagee Ibungo, Lambidudei, Sakthibee Tampha, Western Sankirtan, Lamjasara, Tabunungda Akaiba Likli and Eidi Thamoi Pikhre may be mentioned.

Chatledo Eidi is a 2000 Indian Meitei language film directed and produced by Makhonmani Mongsaba under the banner of Sangai Films. It is based on the famous radio play Chatledo Eidi Meigee Ching Puduna by Moirangthem Inao. The film was selected for Indian Panorama of the 32nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2001. The movie won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Manipuri at the 48th National Film Awards.

Makhonmani Mongsaba is an Indian author, actor, producer and director from Imphal, Manipur. He got his doctorate degree in Manipuri from Manipur University. In 2013, he won the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for his book Chinglon Amadagi Amada, a travelogue. He published the book Matamgi Manipur:The First Manipuri Feature Film by Bobby Wahengbam under the name Angomningthou Preservation and Documentation. It won the Best Book on Cinema at the 65th National Film Awards 2018 and both the writer and the publisher received the Swarna Kamal award.

Kangabam Tomba is an Indian actor from Imphal, Manipur. He started his career in theatre. His first appearance in movies is in Matamgi Manipur, the first Manipuri full-length feature film where he played a college guy. His is popularly known as Lamja Tomba for his titular role in the 1974 movie Lamja Parshuram. Tomba bagged the Best Actor Award at the 1st Manipur State Film Festival 1984 for the film. Kshetrimayum Rashi is an Indian actress from Imphal, Manipur, who worked in theatre and Manipuri films. She was introduced into the world of theatre by her mother Rasamani Devi. She is best known for her role in the movie Imagi Ningthem, which also received wide international acclaim. Rashi has featured in over 150 radio plays. She was conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 13th Manipur State Film Awards 2020. She is also the recipient of the Sahitya Seva Samiti, Kakching Neta Irawat Leelaroi Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.

She was best known for her roles in movies like Kanaga Hinghouni, Chang Shi Chang, Lakhipurgi Lakhipyari, Naoshum, Yumleima Lamleima and Thasi Thanou. Two films where she acted, namely Yenning Amadi Likla (feature) and Ngaihak Lambida (non-feature) made entries into the Indian Panorama of the International Film Festival of India.

Manda Leima is an actress who appears in Manipuri films. She is best known for her role of Leihao in the 2002 movie Lallasi Pal. Angangba Kurao Mapal, Ingengi Atiya, Thengmankhre Thabalse, Inga Nonglakta, Kaboklei and Lanphamda Ibeni are some of her famous films.

Biju Ningombam is an Indian actress who appears in Manipuri films. Some of her famous films include Nungshi Feijei, Phishakhol, Nurei, Thabaton 3 and Ei Actor Natte.

<i>Saklon Amada</i> 2010 Indian film

Saklon Amada is a 2010 Indian Meitei language film directed by L. Surjakanta and produced by Guruaribam John Sharma. The movie is a production of Narayan Sharma Films. Produced with a vision of women empowerment, the film stars Kaiku Rajkumar, Maya Choudhury, Thingom Pritam and Daisy Kh. in the lead roles. The movie was premiered at Shankar Talkies, Lamphel in February 2010. It was later released at Pratap Talkies, Paona Bazar and many other theatres of Manipur.
