Molly Mitchell Spearman (born January 23,1954) is an American educator and politician who served as the South Carolina Superintendent of Education from 2015 to 2023. She is a Republican. [1] [2]
She grew up on her family's farm in Saluda County,South Carolina. She received a B.A. in music education from Lander University,has a master's degree in education supervision from George Washington University,and an education specialist degree from the University of South Carolina. [3]
She taught music at public schools,served four terms in the South Carolina House of Representatives,and was Deputy Superintendent of Education before being elected Superintendent of Education in November 2014. [3]

In 2020,she worked to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic including addressing issues related to online learning and how to reopen schools safely. [5] [6]

Ruth Burnett Love,also known as Ruth B. Love-Holloway was an American educator,education administrator,author and former schools superintendent. Love was formerly a professor of education at her college alma mater San Francisco State University. Love served as superintendent of the Oakland Unified School District from November 1975 until February 1981 and the Chicago Public Schools from March 1981 until March 1985. Love was the first African-American to serve as superintendent for the Chicago Public Schools district. In 1983,Love received the Horatio Alger Award and a Candace Award for Education from the National Coalition of 100 Black Women. Love was named as one among 100 of the best school managers in North America by Educator Magazine in 1984.
Rudolph Mitchell was an American politician in the state of South Carolina. He served in the South Carolina House of Representatives as a member of the Democratic Party from 1963 to 1973,representing Saluda County,South Carolina. Catherine Truitt is an American educator and politician who has served as the 21st North Carolina superintendent of public instruction since January 2,2021. A member of the Republican Party,Truitt previously served as senior advisor on education to North Carolina governor Pat McCrory from 2015 to 2017. She has been the chancellor of the online Western Governors University North Carolina since its establishment in 2017. Truitt ran for reelection in 2024,but was defeated in the Republican primary by Michele Morrow.
